Johnson County Mental Health is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of a on call, Behavioral Health Specialist for the Treatment recovery place. The unit has 24/7 operations and typically individuals stay in the program for 3-5 days. This position is eligible for a shift differential specific to overnight hours($1.50/hr), weekend hours ($0.75/hr), and evening hours ($0.75/hr). First review of applications will be October 3rd.
Job Description
Job duties include:
Provides, assists with, or coaches individuals on personal care needs with limited supervision; provides crisis interventions (including evidence based practices to maintain the safety of individuals); monitors adult interactions and behaviors; monitors medication administration as prescribed; monitors and documents mental and physical condition of individuals.
Teaches, coaches and provides guidance and support on various skills to enable productive lives of individuals; assists individuals with managing their emotions, assists and supports individual treatment/recovery goals and assist in developing positive coping skills; develops and maintains a positive and effective relationship with service recipients, families, and other service providers.
Organizes and participates in meetings related to care coordination; completes documentation for direct services provided to ensure timely and accurate completion.
Transports individuals receiving services to appointments, activities, and/or work.
Job Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working in a human services field are required. A valid driver's license with acceptable driving record is preferred.
Minimum Shifts: Candidates are required to cover a minimum of 1 shift per month.
Annual Hour Limit: Candidates may work a maximum of 999 hours per year.
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a behavioral health setting is preferred.

PURPOSE OF JOB: The Head Start Mental Health Content Area Specialist plans, coordinates, and implements the mental health service area to children enrolled in Head Start and Early Head Start programs in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, Local, State, and Federal regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports the education component of Head Start by researching, recommending, and implementing evidence-based social and emotional programs, such as Conscious Discipline, that serve as a preventative measure for children's health and well-being. This includes securing training, resources and supplies for full program implementation.
Develops an effective system to identify and support interventions for children displaying concerns with mental health. This system includes conducting observations, intervention, assessment, and referral. Develops documents and tracking systems for outcomes and auditing purposes. Enters data in ChildPlus.
Implements the DECA (Devereux Early Childhood Assessment) and Trauma Smart program by working with teachers and Head Start students directly in the classroom to support effective prevention strategies and the development of new skills. Provides ongoing professional development to teaching staff.
Works with the Head Start Director to secure contracts for additional mental health consultation as required by Head Start Program Performance Standards. Provides oversight of mental health contractors to include tracking of referrals, success of interventions, and delivery of activities designed to support staff well-being.
Lead the Head Start Program in its' Trauma-Informed initiatives, by collaborating with district and community providers. Influence the climate within the Head Start program by sharing and modeling trauma-informed care best-practices.
Supports families by presenting and providing resources on child development and indicators for potential delays and behavioral concerns. This includes leading parenting groups, presenting at building-level parent meetings, and offering brief solution-focused therapy sessions as appropriate.
Ensures that each child receives a social and emotional screen within 45 days of enrollment and facilitates discussion on what the results may indicate as requested.
Serves on the Head Start Leadership Team to support effective systems, manage risks, and ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies, to include Head Start Program Performance Standards, MARC, Federal Office of Head Start, Kansas City Public Schools, licensing and Health and Human Services. Participates in annual self-assessment review to identify strengths and areas of growth; developing action plans as required. Updates policies, procedures and handbooks annually.
Participates in required trainings (minimum 15 hours annually), workshops, collaborative meetings with MARC and KCPS, and maintains required certifications, as applicable. Maintains professional standards and technical knowledge in Mental Health education and research through review of professional literature, participation in conferences and continuing education, informs staff and colleagues of the results of these activities.
Treats children, families and colleagues with professionalism and supports a positive work environment that aligns with the philosophy of KCPS Head Start, Trauma Smart and Conscious Discipline.
Follows district guidelines for reporting incidents of suspected abuse, neglect or contagious disease.

Complete paperwork, monthly reports, and case notes accurately and in a timely manner.
Implements and monitors Homeownership program.
Obtains and maintains a broad-based current knowledge of the process of purchasing a home, the loan products available and their respective terms, down payment assistance programs, standard and specialized loan products, personal credit issues, the pros and cons of home ownership, housing types, Fair Housing issues, and related information pertinent to the position.
Informs prospective participants about the Homeownership program, determines applicant eligibility, coordinates the Homeownership programs with various mortgage lenders, and serves as liaison between the Authority and internal agencies (FSS and HCVP) and various outside agencies and lending institutions.
Establishes appropriate contacts, maintaining rapport with financial institutions, title companies, realtors, builders, and community and civic and government organizations.
Contacts Section 8 Resident Community in outreach efforts in order to inform, educate, and offer the opportunity that has been created to benefit qualifying candidates.
Holds training workshops and/or periodically scheduled classes, or one-on-one basis with Homeownership resident candidates, in order to provide orientation and training to the candidates before they seek a home to buy on such topics as Responsibilities of Owning a Home, Financial Responsibilities, Credit Management, finding a Realtor, negotiating a contract, The Option Period, The Closing and Post Closing Responsibilities, etc.
Participates in the Program Coordinating Committee (PCC) with local partners and service providers to ensure that FSS program participants are linked to the supportive services they need to achieve self-sufficiency, including services for participants with limited English proficiency.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The employee receives instructions from the FSS Program Manager. Courses of action, deadlines, and priorities are established by procedure, the supervisor, or the employee, depending on the assignment. Routine duties are initiated and completed by the employee without supervisory direction. Instructions to the employee may be general or specific in nature. Problems or situations not covered by instructions are usually referred to the supervisor for resolution. The employee's work is closely reviewed on a regular basis for accuracy, completion, and compliance with policies and procedures and the attainment of objectives.
The employee has no supervisory responsibilities but may request assistance of other Authority employees to ensure timely processing/updates/inspections of client information to obtain a more complete overview of client circumstances.

Responsibilities:
Conduct a psychosocial assessment as part of the comprehensive assessment within 5 days of admission to the hospice program. This includes emotional, social, financial and environmental resources and to identify appropriate psychosocial problems, interventions and goals for the patient's plan of care.
Participate in IDG meetings and the development of the patient's plan of care.
Observe, record and report changes on the patient's emotional and social factors that are being affected by the patient's illness and his/her need for care and his/her response to treatment.

About the role:
The PRN Masters of Social Worker contracted or employed through the organization is responsible for the implementation of standards of care for medical social work services and for adherence to all conditions in the Service or Employment Agreement.
Job Responsibilities:
Assesses the psychosocial status of patients and families/caregivers related to the patient's terminal illness and environment and communicates findings to the registered nurse and other members of the interdisciplinary group. Provides an assessment in the patient's identified residence and assistance when this is not safe, and another plan is required.
Carries out social evaluations, including family dynamics, caregiver abilities, communication patterns, high risks for suicide, neglect, or abuse, and plans intervention based on evaluation findings.
