1965

Learn how Golda Och Academy went from its founding as Solomon Schechter Day School of Essex and Union in 1965 to the preeminent preparatory school in New Jersey for Pre-K through 12th grade Jewish education.

1966

It was established in 1966 by Max Gelb and operates on two campuses; a Lower School (K–5) in White Plains and an Upper School (6–12) in Hartsdale.

Solomon Schechter School of Westchester was founded in 1966 with twenty-two students and two teachers in the basement of Temple Israel Center.

1973

Thanks to the work of a group of visionary pioneers in 1973-74, the Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County opened its doors.

1979

In 1979, with financial support from M. Mac Schwebel and others, the school leased the 25-acre (100,000 m2) Rosedale Elementary School campus on Dellwood Road in White Plains, and two years later purchased the campus.

1980

In 1980, Rabbi Gelb and Mrs.

1989

In 1989, with support from Joseph S. Gruss, a fourth building was constructed on the White Plains campus to help accommodate the demands of Westchester's largest Jewish day school.

1996

The Schechter Manhattan school opened in 1996 with Doctor S. Lorch as the founding Head of School.

2000

In September of 2000, the school outgrew its original site and expanded to a West Side campus.

2015

After founding Head of School, Doctor Steve Lorch retired in June 2015, 9 year veteran Middle School Head Benjamin Mann became the school’s second Head of School.
