Job Description:
Provides patient care services along with direct treatment and follow-up.
Evaluates and treats patients with a physician's order due to a speech, language, swallow, or cognitive disorder, and develops a plan of care appropriate to the patient's diagnosis.
Documents patient care data accurately, thoroughly, and in a timely matter, reflecting evidence of improvement/progress/decline in patient's condition.
Communicates as necessary with intercompany and intracompany contacts, and establishes/maintains open lines of communication among branch administrative and management staff, and other clinical staff.
Attends patient care conferences, meetings, and mandatory in-services as scheduled, and provide weekly statistical data.
Provides in-service education, health care professional education, and public education in addition to supervising peers and supporting personnel and students in training as needed by the company.
Conducts research and assists with orientation of new employees as needed.
Job Requirements:
Master's degree in speech language pathology and Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association, as well as current licensure from the state in which employed by the company.
Strong knowledge of theory and concepts relating to the practice of speech language pathology and the ability to evaluate and treat patients for whom a physician's order exists.
Strong communication (oral and written) and organizational skills and be CPR certified.
Minimum of twelve hours of continuing education annually.

The Rehabilitation Services Department at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC, is accepting applications for an Acute Care Speech Language Pathologist part-time position. This position will offer therapy services within various acute care patient populations. The Speech/Lang Pathologist will work closely with a team of experienced peers as well as other members of the interprofessional team in a large volume, fast-paced acute care environment. Candidates must have excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills. Clinical experience in acute care is strongly preferred.
The selected candidate will work a minimum of 1 weekend day per month and occasional weekday/holiday coverage.
Responsibilities:
1. Diagnostic Testing - Administers basic & complex diagnostic tests and evaluations in the area of speech language pathology for the treatment of communication and swallowing disorders and related impairments.

Work is typically performed in an school setting. Regular coordination with school administrators is necessary. Daily liaison activity throughout the division is necessary. These contacts may be contentious. Occasional contact with state administrators and representatives of federal agencies is necessary. Travel between school sites will be required.

Your Specific Duties
Evaluate patients and create plans of care, and report progress/limitations.
Complete required clinical documentation as required by third party payors and by SOTS.

Masters in Speech/Language Pathology required, valid professional license
Meet and maintain licensing and educational criteria as set forth by Virginia law.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Planning and Oversight
Organizes the school program, cooperates with others to accomplish its goals, coordinates program services with other student services and maintains records in accordance with established rules, regulations and ethical standards.
Maintains Medicaid billing profiles and therapy notes on all Medicaid eligible students using the designated billing service for the district.
Screening, Testing, Diagnosing and Advising
Conducts screening and testing, obtains diagnostic information, analyzes information and makes recommendations regarding programs and services.
The speech-language specialist can supervise speech-language assistants and clinical fellows working on ASHA certification.
Developing Individual Education Programs
Develops individual education plans for each speech-language eligible child in collaboration with the classroom teacher, parent, LEA representative and other pertinent professionals.
Managing and Conducting Therapy
Plans therapy and uses appropriate diagnostic tools and therapy techniques to support the curriculum.
The employee manages time, facilities and resources to facilitate delivery of services.
The employee promotes effective interpersonal relations and engages in continuing professional growth.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Must have a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Preferred to have a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association. Must have a G License from the NC Department of Public Instruction. May have a license from the Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
