Job Description
As a skilled nursing facility speech-languagepathologist, you'll help patients with swallowing, speaking, understanding and other speech-related tasks they need to function. The speechlanguagepathologist manages administrative, fiscal, and facilities functions responsibly through activities such as the following:
โข Receives student referrals and implements the appraisal process.
โข Selects and administers formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services
โข Collects and organizes relevant assessment data from student's cumulative folder, classroom teacher(s), principal, support staff, parents, and outside resource people.
โข Conducts classroom observation and personal interviews.
โข Participates in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee to assist with interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to District procedures.
โข Plans and provides appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals within the Individual Education Plan (IEP).
โข Evaluates student progress and determine readiness for termination of services.
โข Develops and maintains effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
โข Develops and coordinates a continuing evaluation of the assessment program and make changes based on findings.
โข Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other document required.
โข Complies with policy in the areas of assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.
โข Complies with all district and local campus routines and regulations. Instructional Management The speechlanguagepathologist promotes improvement of instruction through activities such as the following:
โข Assists classroom teachers with implementation of individual education plans (IEP).
โข Instructs eligible students in the use of appropriate communication technologies (hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication devices, etc.) to minimize the adverse educational impact of communication disorders.
โข Develops plans, interventions and/or educational materials for the purpose of minimizing the adverse educational impact of communication disorders.
โข Administers appropriate test instruments to students who are referred for consideration of eligibility as speech impaired, and write reports to reflect the findings.
โข Participates in the IEP committee meeting to select appropriate goals and objectives in the areas of speech and language to remediate areas of weakness identified in standardized testing and classroom performance.
โข Develops and implements speech/language therapy that reflects the IEP for students.
โข Maintains written records of the performance of students over time to document progress toward mastery of IEP goals and objectives.
โข Assists classroom teachers to make the needed accommodations and instructional support for students with speech/language weaknesses.
โข Reports on a regular basis, as determined in the IEP, on the progress of students toward mastery of their IEPs.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION: Provides discipline-specific treatment for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), including evaluation, planning, documentation and professional communication. Develops and monitors individualized goals and plans as identified in the Individualized Treatment Plan (ITP) in conjunction with other programs, as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
Evaluates children referred for speech-language therapy using established evaluation procedures and standardized assessments. Using independent discretion and judgment develops individualized speech-language therapy treatment, plans and goals.
Partners with interdisciplinary team to provide discipline-specific consultation. Develops and provide coaching for family members and/or child to incorporate new skills and/or techniques into normal routines and activities at home. Works with caregivers to implement a home program that achieves speech-language therapy goals. Instructs family members and/or child in the proper and safe usage of adaptive equipment and assistive technology. Assists in the coordination of services and makes appropriate referrals as needed.
Completes necessary documentation including evaluations, treatment notes, progress reports, and exit summaries, and keeps updated with current medical reports and other site-related documents on each child.
Remains current regarding new research, current trends and developments in autism, special education and related fields.
Attends and assists with staff meetings, in-services, and other meetings as requested, regarding speech-language therapy across program service divisions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Master's degree in speech-language pathology.|Current speech-languagepathologist license issued by the state of California.|Current American SpeechLanguage Hearing Association (ASHA) certification.|Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP).|Must have and maintain a current CPR certification card.

Speech-LanguagePathologists use standardized assessments, clinical observations, and diagnostic tools to identify the nature and severity of communication challenges and formulate accurate diagnoses.
Treatment Planning and Intervention: Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to the specific needs and goals of each patient. Speech-LanguagePathologists design therapy sessions that incorporate evidence-based techniques and strategies to address speech production, language comprehension and expression, social communication skills, voice quality, and swallowing function.
Therapeutic Interventions: Implement a variety of therapeutic interventions to improve communication and swallowing abilities. This may include articulation drills, language exercises, cognitive-communication tasks, voice therapy techniques, fluency shaping strategies, and management protocols. Speech-LanguagePathologists provide personalized instruction and feedback to support skill development and functional improvement.
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC): Assess the need for and implement AAC systems and devices to support individuals with severe communication impairments. Speech-LanguagePathologists collaborate with patients, families, and caregivers to select and customize AAC solutions that enhance communication and participation in daily activities.
Dysphagia Management: Evaluate and treat swallowing disorders (dysphagia) through a combination of clinical assessments, therapeutic exercises, compensatory strategies, diet modifications, and swallowing rehabilitation techniques. Speech-LanguagePathologists play a key role in ensuring safe and efficient swallowing function to prevent aspiration and improve nutritional intake.
