What Youll Do
TaxPreparation & Review
Prepare and review federal and state individual (1040) tax returns with all related schedules.
Prepare and review business tax returns including Forms 1120, 1120-S, and 1065, along with all related schedules.
Produce accurate, high-quality work with efficient turnaround times.
Client Interaction
Consult with clients to understand their financial situation and tax liabilities.
Provide proactive communication, guidance, and follow-up to ensure clients feel supported and informed.
Represent clients before the IRS and state tax authorities when needed.
Financial & Accounting Support
Make adjusting journal entries and prepare or interpret financial statements when required for taxpreparation.
Assist clients in cleaning up bookkeeping records to complete tax filings or support year-round accounting services.
Team Collaboration
Work closely with our CPAs, tax advisors, and bookkeeping team to ensure seamless client service.
Mentor and coordinate with junior team members to ensure accuracy and timely completion of projects.
Who You Are
Experienced
35 years of taxpreparation experience in a CPA or EA firm.
Strong knowledge of individual and business taxation, depreciation, basis requirements, amended returns, NOLs, and state filings.
Credentialed or Growing
EA or CPA preferredor actively working toward certification.
Technically Strong
Proficient in taxpreparation software (CCH preferred), QuickBooks, and Microsoft Office.
Comfortable preparing complex workpapers and interpreting financial statements.

Tax Help Colorado helps low- and middle-income families Coloradans to file accurate tax returns and receive every deduction and credit they are owed-often to the tune of thousands of dollars that can be used to reach their personal and family goals through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) in partnership with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The taxpreparer plays an integral role in implementing the Tax Help Colorado program and effectively supports and operates free taxpreparation sites across the state of Colorado. With a strong focus on providing excellent customer service to create a trustworthy environment for the client, this position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the community by supporting clients with tax assistance.
Essential Responsibilities
Complete all required training and IRS certifications
Ensure accurate taxpreparation and quality review of tax returns
Provide administrative support at taxpreparation sites in the community
Follow the Internal Revenue Service's VITA quality site requirements
Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate service delivery
Provide exceptional customer service
Build relationships and work effectively with donors, volunteers, clients, and community partners
What You'll Need: Education, Experience, and Skills
Excellent communication and client service skills, including attentive listening, calmness under pressure, and de-escalation
Experience working in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated passion for helping low-income individuals and families meet their needs and build assets
Strong organizational skills, including time management and attention to detail
Experience with concepts of trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, and community engagement
Proficiency with Windows computers and web-based software applications
Training and Certificate Requirements:
All taxpreparers are required to complete a short taxpreparation course during the onboarding period to preparetax returns with Tax Help Colorado. Successful completion of all certifications below is a requirement of employment:

Working Environment: 100% in-person at taxpreparation sites throughout Metro Denver.
