In 1805, Frederick Tudor began cutting ice on Fresh Pond.
In 1843, a railroad was built which ran through the town of Belmont.
A group of about 1,000 people joined together in the early 1850's and announced their desire to form a separate town.
The town of Belmont was founded by the former citizens of Massachusetts Bay Colony on March 18, 1859.
The name of the town was changed to "Belmont” in 1869 and the Belmont Historical Society was formed 100 years later on the anniversary.
The town officially adopted this seal in 1882.

In October 2016 the Society’s Board approved additional funding to cover the repair of the deteriorated wooden porch surrounding the station and painting the posts and exterior trim of the building.
