Reports to the Director of Imaging Services and Ultrasound Coordinator. Performs diagnostic medical sonography including abdomen, OB/GYN, small parts, as well as vascular sonography. Occasionally scans in interventional radiology and surgery. Follows protocols, policies, and procedures as directed by the radiologist and/or supervising technologist. Performs a variety of vascular studies which may include: arterial studies (upper and lower extremities including digits) by: * Obtaining a clear medical history including detailed information of current symptoms and medication regimen. * Measuring segmental pulse volume recording (upper and lower extremity, simultaneously). * Obtaining analog Doppler waveforms of blood flow by placing Doppler probe over designated arterial flow areas of upper and lower extremities. * Grading and evaluating Doppler signal and pulses by palpation, velocity and listeningand recording findings. * Measuring segmental blood pressures at ankle, calf, lower thigh, upper thigh and bilateral brachial. * Calculating ankle brachial index. * Evaluating findings to determine if patient needs PPG, if so, use protocol. * Obtaining, simultaneously, PPG tracings of each toe using channel PPG and recording each. * Measuring blood pressure in each great toe and calculating to-ankle index and mount finding for physician to read. Performs ultrasound and general assistance during vascular procedures by: * Maintains sterile field. * Assists physician as directed. * Provides ultrasound guidance during vascular procedures. * Recovers patients post procedure including discharge instructions and follow up appointments. * Fits patients for compression stockings. Conducts diagnostic and vascular ultrasonography procedures in order to provide data used by physicians in diagnosis and treatment purposes. Relays pertinent clinical information to the interpreting physician and observes patients during procedures for any abnormalities. Reviews patient's chart/order/previous procedures and records information for interpreting physician viewing and accurate interpretation prior to beginning procedure. . Performs all procedures according to departmental policies in a timely and efficient manner. Selects appropriate equipment and transducer settings, adjusts equipment controls by hand or manipulation according to specific orders and part of body to be examined.. Assists appropriate patients in assuming proper physical position and explain procedure to patients to elicit cooperation and calm apprehensions. Observes display screen to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes and then saves for permanent record. Discusses examination with interpreting physician, ordering physicians or other departmental personnel and seeks input from the interpreting physician to enhance technical skills. **Job Specification and Competencies:** **Education** : Completion of two/three years of occupationally specific education beyond high school in radiologic technology, ultrasonography, other related education, or on the job training/education. **Licensure:** ARRT, ARDMS, RDCS, Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), equivalent certification or Registry eligible. Registry eligible candidates must obtain registry status within 3 years of hire. This role supports patient care across multiple departments, ensuring accurate and timely diagnostic results that aid in patient treatment planning. Essential Functions Performs echocardiograms and vascular ultrasound procedures, following protocols to ensure high-quality diagnostic imaging. Operates ultrasound equipment safely, maintaining cleanliness and ensuring functionality for optimal use in patient assessments. Conducts preliminary evaluations and records findings, providing comprehensive data for physician interpretation. Collaborates with healthcare providers across departments, facilitating the coordination of patient care and timely delivery of diagnostic results.
