Assists the physicians in the delivery of safe, age appropriate patient care during testing in the Echocardiography Lab. Works collaboratively with the RNs and MDs in a Health team forum to promote wellness and optimize patient outcomes and quality care. Participates in unit/department/institution performance improvement activities that impact patient and service outcomes based on professional practice standards. Job Responsibilities: Performs transthoracic echocardiograms, stress echo (both exercise and pharmacological) per department and management guidelines. Captures digital cardiac images and performs measurements correctly, recognizing pathology andor customizes exam requiring contrast agent accordingly due to lack of image quality. Performs intra-procedural transthoracic echocardiograms as ordered. Performs transthoracic echocardiograms as ordered for patients enrolled in Institutional Review Board (IRB) approved clinical trials research protocols. Transthoracic echocardiograms may be performed in the Echo Lab or done as a portable study at the bedside. Responds to stat calls accordingly. Reports life threatening pathology to attending Physician or Fellow Responsible for the preparation of echocardiogram procedure including but not limited to equipment, supplies, instruments and appropriate paperwork. Participates in orientation of new employees as needed. Responsible for daily quality control of equipment and escalates issues as needed. Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications: Technical Diploma. Graduate of an accredited cardiac ultrasound program. Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) by CCI or ARDMS required at hire. Current and valid BLS required. Current and valid BLS certification. Excellent communication (both written and oral), detail orientation, customer service, multitasking skills. Basic computer skills.
