JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Performs routine breast ultrasound procedures following the protocols established by the radiologist. Patients are positioned and scanned correctly assuring that the physician prescription and scan are the same. 2. Properly inputs all required patient information into the system including protocol, patient history in full sentences, performing providers, and any additional information to the radiologist regarding the procedure. 3. Obtains complete and detailed history to assist the radiologist with diagnosis from each patient. Performs exams in an accurate and timely manner. 4. Properly identifies patients and demonstrates compassion while maintaining patient confidentiality. Explains the exam to each patient to ensure patient safety and cooperation. 5. Assists the radiologist during breast biopsies while following OSHA and universal precautions. Reviews consent forms with patients and answers any questions regarding the procedure, and ensures that the radiologist and patient sign the consent forms. Properly labels the specimen containers and fills out any necessary paperwork accurately. 6. Maintains exam rooms by stocking exam rooms with necessary supplies. The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonography equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. The Sonographer is responsible for daily operations of the sonography area, basic equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessments (QA). Sonographer - I provides quality patient care when performing diagnostic sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention.
