Qualifications
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technician program.
* Current state veterinary technician license in good standing.
* One year of experience in the veterinary industry is preferred.
* Proficiency in a range of technical skills including laboratory procedures, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental care, and nursing.
* Ability to administer subcutaneous (SQ), intramuscular (IM), and intravenous (IV) injections.

Per-Diem Care Specialists work on an as-needed basis when regular FT or PT staff are unavailable. The Care Specialist participates in the 24-hour front desk staffing of Coburn Place and represents the core values and mission of the organization to provide support services to Coburn Place survivors, visitors, volunteers, staff and the community at-large. Serves as the first point of contact for people entering the facility and is responsible for ensuring a safe, welcoming, hospitable, and trauma-informed environment. Provides emergency and essential services to survivors of domestic abuse, in conjunction with the Advocate team. Connects survivors with 24-hour emergency on-call Advocate staff for issues that cannot be resolved within the scope of the Care Specialist's training and responsibilities.
REVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provides exemplary customer service to all Coburn Place clients on a daily basis and during crisis situations while maintaining a professional, confidential and courteous relationship with them.
Handles and documents crisis calls utilizing appropriate community resources and referrals.
Becomes familiar with each resident's safety plan and takes appropriate action when necessary.
Acts as the first point of contact and represents Coburn Place while receiving all callers, clients and visitors via telephone/email/text, or on-site in a professional and courteous manner.
Ensures the safety and security of all clients and visitors by monitoring the security of the grounds, facility and gate through the established procedures and maintenance of the visitor/volunteer log.
Communicates with the appropriate staff regarding any security or safety concerns of the facility.

Essential Responsibilities
Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, as well as providing client education.
Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs of the patient during surgery.
Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens for outside laboratories.
Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following proper safety procedures.
Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments at the discretion of the veterinarian.
Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment, and lab areas; restock exam rooms with supplies. Assist other team members to keep the public areas of the practice clean; clean and maintain all medical equipment.
Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism in all interactions with clients; exercise compassion and care in all interactions with patients.
Communicate with veterinarians and practice team members including client discussions, patient plans, client concerns, etc.
Any other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications
Ability to work on weekends as required
Previous veterinary experience preferred
Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance
Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE
Basic math and the ability to calculate medication dosages
Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS office applications, etc.
Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety

Responsibilities
Assists with the implementation of preventive health programs.
Under minimal direction, triages and evaluates common rodent disease conditions, provides immediate care to emergency cases, and raises problems as appropriate.
Consults with veterinarians and research personnel on treatment options.
Administers clinical treatments, collects diagnostic and environmental samples, and administers euthanasia when necessary.
Performs tasks in a manner that is consistent with departmental; institutional; local, state, and federal regulations; AAALAC accreditation standards and industry optimal methods. Reports issues of non-compliance.
