Exploring the 10 Most Relaxed Towns in Arkansas

In any workplace, dealing with unproductive colleagues can be frustrating. You know the type—the individual who seems to shift their responsibilities onto others while still managing to bask in the glow of recognition.

If you find yourself in one of these Arkansas towns, you might wonder if that unproductive persona is reflecting back at you.

This isn’t meant to be disparaging; rather, certain attitudes can permeate local cultures and influence workplace dynamics. No one wants to collaborate with those who consistently underperform.

To shed light on this topic, we delved into the latest data from the American Community Survey, identifying criteria that could illuminate the places in Arkansas that may be perceived as more relaxed when it comes to work ethic. Our analysis provides insights into local productivity trends for 2026.

After assessing the data, we present the ten “Most Relaxed Towns in Arkansas” based on our findings:

  1. Osceola
  2. Newport
  3. West Memphis
  4. Mena
  5. Helena-West Helena
  6. Hope
  7. Trumann
  8. Hot Springs

How We Identified the Most Relaxed Towns in the Natural State

At Zippia, we rely heavily on data to tackle tough questions. Some might even say we’re among the most diligent data analysts in the region.

This time, we turned to the most recent American Community Survey for insights. The Census Bureau recently released updated data, making this analysis among the first of its kind utilizing these new statistics.

After meticulously reviewing a wide range of criteria, we focused on the following metrics to determine the most relaxed towns in Arkansas:

  • Lowest average hours worked per week
  • Shortest average commute time
  • Fewest workers per household (calculated by labor force divided by number of households)
  • Highest unemployment rate
  • Lowest percentage of adults with a college degree

Our rationale is straightforward: towns where educational attainment is low, where few people participate in the workforce, and where household incomes rely on a single earner may reflect a more relaxed attitude toward work.

We gathered data for 60 towns in Arkansas with populations exceeding 5,000 people, ranking each based on the criteria with 1 being the “most relaxed.”

Next, we averaged the rankings to create a relaxation index. Ultimately, the town with the lowest index was crowned the “Most Relaxed Town in Arkansas,” and Osceola topped the list.
