Job Duties
STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
* Conducts investigations and evaluations of individuals for involuntary commitment and detains individuals when legal criteria are met and commitment is appropriate.
* Assesses behavioral health emergencies and provides crisis intervention for individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis in the community.
* Works collaboratively with behavioral health agencies, psychiatrists, emergency departments, inpatient units, residential facilities and other referral sources to assure the best outcome for each individual in need of behavioral health services.
* Coordinates and facilitates arrangements necessary for the holding of probable cause hearings for patients hospitalized in our county in need of continued involuntary treatment; provides court testimony concerning patient's need for further involuntary treatment.
* Performs ongoing community regarding involuntary treatment.
* Contacts appropriate hospitals for admissions, provides screening information and arranges for transport as needed.
* Participates in the ITA Court process and provides relevant information to prosecuting attorneys and others authorized through the judicial process.
* Maintains necessary records and files as well as statistical information on all program activities.
* Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
A master's degree in social work, clinical psychology, psychiatric nursing or related field; PLUS, two (2) years of experience in the direct treatment of mentally ill clients; OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. PLUS, a valid and current license as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Must pass job related tests.

Responsibilities
What You'll Do:
The Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) manages and maintains the safety of the individuals and staff. Takes vitals and assists individuals in meeting their needs while on the unit by providing exceptional customer service. Documents services provided and significant interactions in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
* Conducts security screening and inventories property of individuals upon admission to the facility. Provides orientation to the Observation Unit and Short-term Inpatient Unit. Provide information and assistance with completing Crime Victims' Compensation applications.
Serve as a liaison between the family and multidisciplinary team members as needed.
Assist multidisciplinary team members in identifying client needs and providing recommendations.
Represent the child and family's best interest at multidisciplinary team case review meetings.
Accompany non-offending caregivers to court or other appointments, when requested.
Participate in relevant community awareness, campaigns and prevention events.

POSITION SUMMARY:To develop, implement and evaluate case plans to enrolled Puyallup Tribal children who are found to be children in need of care through the Puyallup Tribal Court. Facilitates family reunification or other permanent placement planning as deemed necessary by the Tribal Court. Initiates life-changing decisions based solely on the best interest of the children.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Initiates, facilitates and assists in obtaining referrals to outside agencies and professional providers in establishing services necessary to achieve case planning goals.2. Performs case consultation and collaboration with CPS Investigator, professional therapists, medical personnel, school officials, legal professionals, and other community agencies for optimal outcomes of case plans.3. Develops appropriate case plans, attends staffing and team meetings to determine needs of clients toward completing their case plans. 4. The FVS Caseworker works with families to mitigate identified risk on a voluntary basis prior to the removal of the child(ren) from the home via court structure.5. Supports and encourages the children, parents, and extended family members to participate in achieving documented case plan.6. The FVS Caseworker is tasked with protection of children from child abuse/neglect with ongoing continuous risk assessments while keeping children in their own homes.7. The FVS Caseworker engages the family and builds on the willingness of the family to engage in services provided by the Puyallup Tribe or allied agencies.8. The FVS Caseworker may also provide support to children who are of appropriate age to access the Extended Foster Care Program. The FVS Caseworker will help by educating the youth on resources and services available, assist the youth/young adult with schooling, vocational programs or higher education & engage them in the program, and help them launch them into adulthood successfully.9. The FVS Caseworker will initiate court structures to remove children if risk cannot be mitigated to keep the child safe, or if additional factors arise.10. Prepares detailed, comprehensive and accurate reports to court, develops case summaries, and attends predetermined and emergency court proceedings. Stays informed of all court proceedings Maintains complete case records of case progress including court documents, school and health records, and correspondence. Also responsible for administration of financial support records, service agreements, service episode information, tribal affiliation and enrollment.11. Actively participates in departmental staff meetings.12. Prepares case summaries to staff with team case reviews, casework supervisor and the Local Indian Child Welfare Advisory Committee when needed and applicable.13. Conducts home visits/inspections with clients to ensure the needs of the family are being met and they are benefitting from services provided by the FVS.14. Initiates and maintains appropriate documentation for financial, medical and educational services for children and families.15. Manages crisis situations as they arise.16. Maintains and ensures extreme level of confidentiality regarding client issues.17. Ability to prioritize workload based on client emergency situations.18. Responsibility for transporting clients to and from appointments.19. Ability to adapt and be flexible to constant changes in Tribal and State Children's Services systems.20. Provide outreach, engagement and liaison support to those people that are seen on a recurring basis which may require short term intensive case management. Facilitate services for high-need individuals across all involved systems of care.
Develop a network of working relationships with emergency responders, local law enforcement, courts, jails, behavioral health treatment providers, emergency housing providers, Lacey Veterans Services Hub, and other fire departments and social service providers.
Promote best practices in treatment approaches, support systems, and interventions. Meet with and interview contacts, families, and other care providers to assess needs and eligibility of services. Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Participates in program and organization staff meetings.
Attends training and organization in-services as required by Vibrant/988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline recommendations.

Requirements:
Computer Skills Assessment: Crisis Connections requires a basic Computer Skills assessment to measure computer literacy and skills. The assessment is approximately 15 minutes in length, and timed. HR will provide a link to complete the test after screening qualified candidates.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
* Accept and act on referrals from SW/NCCs in a timely manner, keeping the SW/NCC informed of progress on the case, documenting in the EMR per department standards, and ensuring that handoffs to all parties are clear and timely.
* Assist the SW/NCCs in identifying, researching, explaining and arranging resources for families. Resources include, but are not limited to, transportation, housing, financial assistance, and safety net programs.
* Under the direction of the SW/NCC, prepare letters and documents to assist families in obtaining benefits. Copy/fax/mail documents as required. Perform other clerical duties as required.
* Provide direct patient care by phone, conduct screenings using standard measurement tools for behavioral health and determine specialty care resource needs, dependent on setting and position.
* Complete review of insurance coverage for mental health benefits to verify and ensure eligibility for services within UW system and community.
* Assist with safe transition of patient to home or other facilities.
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Social Work or a Bachelor's Degree in the behavioral sciences AND two years experience as a Social Work Assistant I or equivalent.

an Associate of Arts Degree in the behavioral sciences AND four years of work experience as a Social Work Assistant I or equivalent.
