Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Responsible for management and oversight of geotechnical investigations
Development and implementation of subsurface investigation programs consisting of test borings, cone penetrometer, dilatometer and geophysical surveys
Perform engineering analysis of soils and rock, for design of shallow and deep foundation systems, slope stability, excavations, permanent and temporary retaining systems, dewatering systems and soil improvement
Preparation of geotechnical reports and memoranda
Preparation of construction documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimates

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Voice and Unified Communications Engineer is responsible for maintaining, administering and troubleshooting the Firm's existing Voice platforms, including voicemail, devices and associated lines, electronic fax solutions and call reporting solutions. For college students interested in engineeringdesign for the built environment, CMTA has a robust co-op program for students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Architectural Engineering. We offer an opportunity for students to immerse themselves for one or more semesters in the consulting engineering world. Our co-ops build industry competitive skills in a hands-on environment, all while working on a team, and being trained by Professional Engineers in AutoCAD and Revit. The skills our co-ops learn allow them to create real construction drawings for real CMTA projects.
This position is a full time (40 hrs./week), onsite position with a competitive hourly pay rate and eligible for overtime pay. This position will start May 2026 and go through Summer 2026. Dates are flexible with school calendar. Our hope is that the co-op students that are hired will do multiple co-op rotations with CMTA with possible consideration for full time employment upon graduation.
Job Description:This position provides a unique opportunity for hands-on training in electrical design. The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work well with a team and independently. Our engineers will teach the student co-op how we design and implement electrical systems/infrastructure as well as energy efficient measures in our building projects. This is a great opportunity to work on some of the most challenging and complex MEP projects, and become an important part of our design team.
Job Functions: (may include but are not limited to)
Learn and implement the electrical system basics such as power, power distribution, lighting & controls, fire alarm systems for new constructions and renovation design projects while supporting our engineering team.
Produce detailed layout and equipment details of electrical systems of buildings,
Produce one-line diagrams/schematics,
Assist the design team in the process of assembling organized sets of drawings,
May assist in the data collection and/or field verification, and
Work in conjunction with designers and engineers to help develop all aspects of a project.
Requirements:
Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering, preferably a sophomore (2nd year) or a junior (3rd year),
Strong interest in Building Systems Electrical Engineering,
AutoCAD and REVIT experience preferred,
Strong interpersonal and communication skills,
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel,
Ability to work both independently and with a team,
Ability to work full time throughout the co-op term,
Ability to travel locally for job site inspections, field work, etc.

This role is critical to the design and execution of complex electrical hardware systems supporting industrial and manufacturing environments.
This is a true design-focused role-ideal for an engineer who thrives in schematic development, control panel design, and electrical documentation, with strong, recent EPLAN experience. Programming experience is a plus, but the priority is deep expertise in hardware design for industrial controls systems.
The position has been open due to internal promotions and a company-wide transition toward EPLAN, making this an excellent opportunity to step into a high-impact role with strong leadership support. Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and document electrical hardware systems for industrial and manufacturing applications
Prepare detailed electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and engineering drawings
Collaborate closely with project engineers, engineering managers, and purchasing teams
Research, select, and specify electrical components and hardware
Generate and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) from drawings and specifications
Ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance of all drawings, revisions, and documentation
Maintain and enhance custom CAD libraries, block libraries, and menus to ensure design consistency
Interpret specifications, standards, and customer requirements
Support UL compliance efforts, primarily UL 508A
Work across multiple projects while meeting production schedules and deadlines
Required Qualifications
5+ years of electrical hardware design experience in industrial or manufacturing environments
3+ years of hands-on EPLAN experience (recent and production-level required)
Strong proficiency with AutoCAD (AutoCAD Electrical preferred; AutoCAD considered)
Experience designing industrial control panels and power distribution systems
Working knowledge of UL 508A, NEC, NFPA 79, and related electrical standards
Ability to independently produce complete electrical design packages from written or verbal direction
Strong documentation, organization, and time-management skills
Ability to interact professionally with internal teams, customers, and vendors
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
10+ years of electrical hardware design experience
Experience in mission-critical, data center, power generation, or heavy industrial environments
Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical programming/scripting
Experience creating electrical blocks with attributes and layered designs
Understanding of Source/Destination Codes and Smart Layout functionality
Exposure to MS Access databases for libraries and model/layout management
PLC or controls programming experience (bonus, not required)
