A client of Insight Global is looking to hire a AV Design Engineer to join their team in the Southern California region. This is a pre-sales position focused on designing and scoping AV solutions in collaboration with the sales team. The ideal candidate is customer-facing, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, solution-driven environment.
Responsibilities include:
Partner with Account Managers to develop AV solutions tailored to customer needs.
Conduct site walks and attend architectural meetings to gather project requirements.
Write detailed scopes of work outlining system functionality and installation plans.
Explain AV system designs clearly to customers using tools like Bluebeam and AutoCAD.
Collaborate with internal AutoCAD department for drawing production.
Estimate installation timelines and labor budgets based on AV construction knowledge.
Read and interpret architectural drawings to inform design decisions.
Conduct peer reviews of other DE drawings.
Maintain a professional demeanor and communicate effectively with clients and internal teams.
Must-Haves:
5 years of design experience in commercial integrations experience
Creating good scopes of work (want example scopes of work to show)- post first interview (could do being conference rooms and then doing one of a technical space)
Strong understanding of AV construction and system integration.
Proficiency in Bluebeam and familiarity with AutoCAD workflows, any of PDF editing tool, adobe, fox IT
Knowledge of AV over IP
Good client/ customer facing experience
Willing/ Able to travel in the Southern California area
CTS Certification
Nice-To-Haves:
10+ years in the AV Industry (Either commissioning, programming, engineering, etc)
CTS-D Certification
Experience in broadcast simulation, more specialized spaces
Familiarity with government contracts (Sled, fed)
Backend knowledge of Zoom and Teams

Key Responsibilities

• Firewall Management: Deploy, configure, and maintain FortiGate firewalls, including policy rules, routing, and high availability.
• Managing Multi-site firewall deployment with site-to-site VPN connections

What a typical day looks like:
Review RFP/RFQ specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate in order bid to meet or exceed customer specification requirements.
Coordinate directly with customers regarding specification/design questions and clarifications.
Work with suppliers/vendors in obtaining pricing, including developing and maintain working files for estimate figures including information of prices from suppliers, price lists, etc.
Review Building Estimators work for any omissions or errors. Work with estimator to fix these and to help them understand what needs to be done in the future.
Prepare accurate, detailed, disciplined estimates, including developing scope of work, pricing, and labor schedules.
Design and draw select fabrication and assembly drawings for control buildings and/or control panels as required for submittal with the bid, depending on the scope of the project
Participate in process improvement initiatives to meet growth demands.
Participate in weekly meetings.
Run kick off meetings for projects as assigned by the department manager.
Research new procedures, proposals, and process improvements as we grow our operation.
Propose ideas and suggestions for areas of improvement to standardize and increase bid success rate.
