Position Overview:
The Department of Special Education, Language and Literacy invites applications for part-time Adjunct Instructors of American Sign Language (ASL). The department offers instruction in courses to Adjunct Instructors on an as-needed basis each semester.
At TCNJ, American Sign Language programming is housed in the Department of Special Education, Language and Literacy within the Elementary Education of The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program, a 5-year dual degree program resulting in a Bachelor of Science and Master of
Arts in Teaching degrees. ASL instruction is also a valued component of the College's World Languages and Culture Program, serving hundreds of students annually. ASL programming includes three levels of instruction and additional specialized courses.
Responsibilities:
Instruct undergraduate ASL courses for students across majors at the college using a program-wide curriculum in core courses and curricula of their design in specialized classes.
Development of course syllabi and assignments.
Evaluation of student performance.
Collaboration with a range of College constituents.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree
Evidenced ASL Proficiency\: SLPI Advanced or higher, ASLPI Level 3 or higher, or Registry of Interpreter for the Deaf Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctoral degree in ASL Linguistics, ASL Instruction, Deaf Education, Deaf Studies, ASL/English Interpreting, or a closely related field.
Evidenced ASL Proficiency\: SLPI Superior or higher, ASLPI Level 4 or higher, or Registry of Interpreter for the Deaf Certification.
A record of instructing ASL or Linguistics at the postsecondary level
Specialized training or experience in ASL pedagogy or curriculum development.

Counselor Education - to teach introductory, advanced, and doctoral level courses, and field placement courses at the Union or Kean Ocean Campus located in Toms River. Courses are scheduled in-person once a week for three (3) hours, beginning at 4:30pm or 7:30pm at the Union campus. Kean Ocean offers weekend courses and some weekday evening courses. Possession of a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) certification, with Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) licensure preferred, or a school counselor certification to teach field placement courses is required. A Ph.D. in Counseling is required to teach doctoral level courses.
All adjunct positions are non-tenure track. They require a master's degree in a related field and teaching experience unless otherwise indicated; candidates with an ABD, Ed.D., Ph.D. or other acceptable disciplinary doctorate are encouraged to apply. Proficiency in a Learning Management System is required, consistent with University guidelines.
Adjunct faculty teaching one three (3) or four (4) credit class shall provide at least one (1) hour of availability outside of the classroom per week for the duration of each semester/session taught by the adjunct faculty member. An additional thirty (30) minutes of availability shall be provided for each additional class taught during the semester/session. Availability may be in person or virtual and shall be scheduled by the adjunct faculty member, taking into account student needs. Adjunct faculty teaching fewer than three (3) credits shall provide at least thirty (30) minutes of availability outside of the classroom per week for the duration of each semester/session taught by the adjunct faculty member. Regardless of the number of credits an Adjunct faculty member is teaching, they may, at their discretion, provide additional office hours beyond the amounts required.
Kean University Adjuncts are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement:
Effective September 2024, the rate of pay is: $1,975 per credit.
Effective September 2025, the rate of pay is: $2,100 per credit.
Effective September 2026, the rate of pay is: $2,225 per credit.
Beginning in their 13th semester taught, Adjuncts receive an additional $75 per credit.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree in Photography, Fine Arts, or Art and Master's degree in Art History or Humanities from an accredited educational institution.
* Demonstrated: -mastery of technical skills related to operating film and digital cameras
* Three (3) years' of experience teaching or working in Black and White Darkroom
* Three (3) years of instructional experience teaching both in person and online courses
* Three (3) years' of experience teaching or working with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom
* Three (3) years' of experience printing with pigment inkjet printers and color profiles
* Proven instructional experience and dedication to student success
* Master's in Fine Arts in Photography, Fine Arts, or Art from an accredited educational institution.
* At least five (5) years teaching experience in Higher Education.

The faculty member will be responsible for teaching courses as assigned and must demonstrate a willingness to teach in-person classes, as well as be certified to teach online courses.
As part of the hiring process, faculty members are required to present their I-9 documents in person for verification. This step is necessary to comply with employment eligibility requirements.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
* Teaches assigned courses in accordance with description published in catalog and the approved course syllabus, in accordance with schedule of classes and incorporating interactive approaches, technologies and methods when possible.
* Incorporates an appreciation of diverse lifestyles, cultures, and national perspectives into courses.
* Incorporates the use of the library into courses, uses writing as an instructional method, and utilizes computing and other academic technologies in courses when possible.
* Meets all scheduled class meetings.
* Advises Division Dean of absences in a timely manner.
* Maintains accurate grade and attendance records for students enrolled in classes and submits required reports to Dean or Student Records Office.
* Submits grades per published deadline.

Education Requirements
