Director of Operations
J2T Recruiting
Whitefish, MT
What's Awesome About Our Client?
Rapidly growing, service-based company expanding across Montana
Proven leadership team with a clear, repeatable operating playbook
Real opportunity to build and scale a regional operation
30+ year company with an employee-first culture and strong tenure
WHY THIS JOB: DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
A leading, service-based company in Whitefish is adding a Director of Operations to its leadership team. This is a newly created role for an established Montana company that has grown consistently year over year and is investing ahead of its next phase of expansion.
In this role, you'll report directly to the General Manager and take ownership of regional operations-leading the day-to-day execution while also helping drive growth. You'll manage the operations team, build strong relationships with new and existing clients, and play a key role in expanding the business across Northwest Montana.
The position covers the Flathead Valley and Missoula regions, overseeing a field-based team that serves clients on a daily basis. You'll work closely with property managers, builders, and developers to grow the company's book of business and establish it as the go-to service provider in the region.
Day to day, you'll stay hands-on with scheduling, routing, invoicing, client relationships, and hiring and
mentoring your team, while building structure and consistency as the operation continues to scale.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience leading construction crews, project teams, or other non-retail, field-based service operations who wants real ownership and long-term runway. The company continues to grow, and this role is designed to grow right along with it.
What You'll Actually Do:
Take full ownership of operations for the Flathead and Missoula markets, with strategic oversight of Missoula as it continues to scale
Lead and grow a field-based team of 6-10 technicians and support staff, with the runway to expand as demand increases
Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing team by setting clear expectations, coaching in the field, and investing in long-term growth
Play a hands-on leadership role in hiring, onboarding, performance management, and team accountability
Serve as the go-to leader for customer escalations and operational challenges, bringing calm, practical solutions when it matters most
Oversee day-to-day service, delivery, and maintenance operations to ensure quality, consistency, and reliability
Use ERP/CRM systems to stay ahead of scheduling, routing, work orders, inventory flow, and invoicing - not buried in them
Partner closely with ownership, HR, and the Bozeman operations team to align on strategy, standards, and best practices
Identify operational bottlenecks and proactively implement process improvements that support scale and efficiency
Support logistics and workflow planning to keep field teams productive and customers satisfied
Travel to Missoula 2-3 days per month during the growth phase (with travel decreasing as the team and market mature)
Actively support business growth by building relationships with property managers, builders, developers, and contract partners
Establish the culture, tone, and operating standards in a newer market, with the freedom to build a team and environment you're proud of
To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Need:
Has 4+ years experience leading field-based teams (construction, service, property management, or similar)
Comfortable managing people directly without layers of middle management
Can handle day-to-day operations while also thinking ahead about growth
Comfortable using systems like CRMs, scheduling tools, and invoicing software
Handles customer issues and employee challenges calmly and professionally
Enjoys building teams, processes, and culture from the ground up
Prefers being hands-on and involved, not stuck behind a desk
Where and How Much:
In-Office at the Whitefish Office, M-F, 8-5; 2-3 days of travel required monthly
Base Pay $95-100K plus bonus (average range is $15-$25K depending on performance)
Exceptional health benefits package, 401K with match and PTO
