Briar Cliff University company history timeline

1979

The innovative Weekend College program started in the fall of 1979.

1982

In 1982, the athletic programs also received a new venue as the Newman Flanagan Center was built to house athletic competitions, coaches' offices, and recreational classes.

1988

In 1988, the Baxter-DiGiovanni Living & Learning Center became the first apartment-style living quarters built on campus.

2000

In 2000, Sharline Maxwell became the first Charger to win an individual national championship in any sport.

The 43,350 square-foot Stark Student Center opened in the fall of 2000.

2005

Briar Cliff swept the two games of the super regionals winning an extra-inning affair (7-6) and closing out Dakota State with a blowout win (13-1) to advance to the 2005 Avista NAIA College World Series.

2012

In 2012, Briar Cliff announced a partnership with the Norm Waitt Sr.

2013

The first doctoral degree, the Doctorate of Nurse Practitioner, was introduced in 2013.

As of 2013, Briar Cliff also launched a new Center for Justice and a Center for Health Care Initiatives which focus on solving real-world problems through enhanced research and dedication to the problems facing Sioux City, as well as Iowa and the rest of the Midwest.

2015

In 2015, Briar Cliff opened a secondary satellite location in the Mayfair Campus to support further graduate degree programming.
