JCDS serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Kansas Neurological Institute The Kansas Neurological Institute (KNI) is an intermediate care facility offering support to approximately 120 residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. KNI practices a person-centered philosophy to support our residents so they can have the quality of life they deserve by recognizing their individuality, honoring their choices, protecting and maintaining their health, helping to build and maintain their relationships with others, and making sure that they are included in every aspect of their lives; in their homes, in their jobs, and in the community. KNI has 19 homes with direct support staff assisting with daily living activities in each home throughout four buildings and is located on a large campus, east of the VA hospital in Topeka. KNI is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation. About the Position: Provide direct service and support to the people who live in Unit 2 at KNI so they can achieve personal growth and well-being, realize choice, attain full inclusion, and celebrate their individuality. Provide an environment that promotes a meaningful life. Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: * Maintain frequent positive interactions with the individuals living at KNI. * Support and assist in carrying out individuals' personal lifestyle plans * Plan community outings and activities * Serve as a positive role model to the individuals living at KNI * Provide appropriate person centered supports and services utilizing task partnering and incidental teaching when assisting with activities of daily living, such as: * Basic housekeeping * Personal hygiene to include bathing, dressing, and all other ADLs * cooking, family style meal service and modeling appropriate behavior at meal time and as well in everyday life (more specialized diets than on the medical unit) * assisting individuals at work * grocery and personal shopping * doing laundry with individuals and task partnering other activities * planning and implementing recreational activities * Mandated yearly and as needed on-site training for job proficiency MHDDTs are offered overtime on occasion and rotate working on weekends. Physically, the MHDDT must be able to lift up to 30 pounds repeatedly throughout a shift and be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop and twist for long periods of time throughout a shift. MHDDTs who obtain their CPR, CNA and CMA certifications are required to attend continuing education classes to maintain their certification (s). All staff at KNI must stay current with policies, procedures, and protocols, proper lifting techniques, and all other training needed to keep KNI in regulatory compliance. Work locations on campus between homes may be changed as staffing needs change.
