City of Alvin company history timeline

1893

Alvin was incorporated in 1893, the first incorporated city in Brazoria County.

1910

Several mild winters gave locals the false confidence to grow satsuma oranges during the 1910's.

1930

In the 1930's, oil was discovered in eastern Brazoria County and even today, oil plays a big part in the economy.

1983

1983 Sold pool table to Monsanto for $100.

1987

1987 First Honor Guard.

2014

2014 Ladies Auxiliary purchased cooler and rehab supplies for new Rescue Truck.

2015

2015 Fire Department approved funding to have bronze bell refurbished and mounted at Fire Station #1.

2016

2016 Switched department text paging system to Active911.

2017

2017 Boy Scout Troop replaced floor in burn building at the fire training field.

2018

2018 Property for new Fire/EMS Station #1 has been purchased and RFQ (Request for Quote) for architect submitted.

2019

2019 Assistant Fire Chief Kendall Hunting hired as the part-time paid Assistant Fire Administrator.

2020

2020 Land clearing and civil work started for new Fire/EMS Station #1.

2021

2021 Awards Banquet is pushed back to May, only inviting limited guests, due to COVID-19.
