Orbital is seeking a Substation Civil / Structural Engineering Manager to provide technical support and direction for our Substation Design Team. This REMOTE WORK position which requires demonstrated leadership. engineering and design competency, in a utility or consulting environment for Electric Substation Projects with voltages up to 500 kV. The position requires excellent communication, leadership and client relation skills. Candidates with a PE or SE license are strongly preferred.
Responsible for technical leadership and oversight of substation civil and structural engineering and consulting services for clients across the US. Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class from small equipment upgrades to large projects in transmission and distribution substations. This position provides leadership and mentorship to other team members and contributes to the technical development of the group as well as the quality of our deliverables. May serve as project lead or independent reviewer for projects assigned.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of team personnel to deliver projects on time and on budget while accomplishing the goals and objectives of the projects.
Directs and/or provides technical leadership to team for engineering design and construction functions within assigned projects
Utilizes thorough understanding of National Electric Safety Code (NESC) Standards, Client Standards, State or Local Municipal Guidelines, and/or other applicable guidelines to manage team through engineering designs.
Manages team productivity and ensures projects are closed out and invoiced accordingly.
Supports leadership team with client onboarding, contract negotiations, and extended relationship development to grow Orbital business.

May occasionally enter energized extra-high voltage substations up to 765kV and will need to coordinate with appropriate utility personnel throughout fielding activities within this location.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from accredited college or university, or a related field with equivalent experience.
Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer license
Proficiency with relevant codes and standards.
Experience with structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry and/or foundation design.
Working knowledge of STAAD or RISA analytical software or equivalent
Experience in the Electric Utilities, Power Generation, Metals, Midstream Oil & Gas, Refineries or Petrochemical industries is preferred
Demonstrated ability to effectively organize multiple complex assignments and competing priorities to produce accurate products on time.
Ability to collaborate in cross-functional work teams.

Understand and analyze the effect of thermal stresses in the reactor containment and resolve over stress conditions
Define hydrodynamic input loads for calculation of dynamic response of containment structure and the C/S design of reactor containment
Analyze the effects of missiles, aircraft impact and severe wind on reinforced concrete structures
Develop engineering reports and licensing documentation.
Interface with internal and external customers, suppliers, partners, the NRC and international regulatory authorities on technical issues.
Incorporate design requirements into analyses and design documents; prepare systems documentation using the designated requirements management tool
Lead and conduct design analyses, evaluations, and verifications for various BWR structural systems
Apply engineering knowledge and practical experience to the analysis, investigation, and solution of complex design problems and application issues
Develop drawings and specifications to assure products can reliably meet all engineering and quality requirements
Work proactively with existing BWR product line and quality personnel through process procedure approvals, process qualification approvals, and non-conforming material disposition
