Maintains and ensures functionality, including stocking of reagents and running necessary controls and calibration of laboratory instruments/equipment. Trains new staff and students. Maintains lab in constant inspection ready state. Follows and enforces safety and regulatory compliance. Explores new methodologies and implements new tests as appropriate. Processes and sends out genetic testing not performed in-house. Manage and maintain cryogenic storage equipment, including handling and inventorying cryopreserved specimens (sperm, oocytes, embryos). Coordinate transportation of cryopreserved specimens with third-party vendors while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Maintain accurate patient records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system and process medical record requests. Act as a primary point of contact between the laboratory, physicians, and nursing teams for lab-related coordination. About the role: The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for cleaning and preparing of sampling media, coordination of client media orders, and maintenance and keeping inventory of sampling media. May also be responsible for assisting in other departments as needed. About you: Coordinating with project managers on scheduling for client media orders Keeping inventory of current sampling media - what is in the field, what is in the lab, and what is missing Cleaning of all sampling media that has been completed for analysis Operate cleaning ovens and flow controllers Operating sample screening instruments when needed Coordinating with analysts as to what media will be ready to be cleaned Communicating with project managers and the lab manager when there are bottlenecks with certain media Packing and creating Fedex labels for shipment of media to clients Assisting in other departments as needed Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Dedication to supporting goals, objectives, and philosophies of ALS; A commitment to cross training; Diligent work ethic and the ability to work as a team member; Familiarity with computer systems; A working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets a plus; Knowledge of basic lab skills, i.e. use of balances, pipettes, quantitative transfer of samples; Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details; High energy level, confidence, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment; Ability to also work weekends. Mechanically inclined individuals preferred Required Qualifications: High School Diploma Strong commitment to quality and integrity Physical Demands: The ability to stand for intervals of up to 8 hours while working; Able to speak and hear clearly while communicating with co-workers and managers; Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate equipment, operate wrenches, connect valves, etc. Must have average vision and able to see to read labels; Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
