Grade level eligibility and salaries vary depending upon background, including experience and education, and duty location of the opportunity. Qualifications:

Culinary Specialists work in kitchens, dining areas, living quarters, and food service storerooms aboard ships and shore bases. The work is both physically and mentally challenging and involves working as part of a team.
Work Environment
CSs spend approximately 60% of their time assigned to fleet units and 40% to shore stations over a 20-year career. Their work environments include shipboard galleys, mess decks, and
shore-based facilities, which can be fast-paced and require attention to detail.
Training & Advancement
After completing Recruit Training, CSs attend a seven-week A school in Fort Lee, VA, where they learn food preparation, nutrition, and dining service. Placement and advancement opportunities are excellent for qualified applicants. Advanced technical and operational training is available later in their careers.
Education Opportunities
CSs can earn college credits through the American Council on Education for courses taken in this rating. Additionally, the United States Naval Community College (USNCC) offers degree
programs, including a Naval Studies Certificate, that contribute toward an associate degree. These programs support professional development and educational advancement. Coordinate with the Golf Professional and Pro Shop staff to obtain information on the number of scheduled golfers and stage golf carts accordingly.

The Athenaeum Hotel is also a venue for special events, all of which are provided by the Special Events department. From weddings, banquets, conferences, and special occasion celebrations, the department provides five-star event service from April through November.
About Your Compensation
Compensation for this position starts at $16.50/Hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $19.00/Hour.
About Your Work Day
Set up and tear down of any event.
Have a thorough knowledge of both the event food and beverage service.
Ability to carry trays, serve guests, oversee and restock buffets.
Occasionally prepare food, transport items to catered events, set tables, clear/bus tables.
Have a basic understanding of the Athenaeum Hotel's history and activities and services within Chautauqua Institution.
Able to work flexible hours to accommodate guest and special event needs.

About the Referral Program
Chautauqua Institution's Referral Bonus Program is a talent solution to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse workforce that encompasses all the skills and experience necessary to deliver on our goals and objectives. About Your Schedule
Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement. While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment, you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position:
Schedules are typically a four or eight-hour shift with a start time that varies between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. for a total of 16-40 hours per week. The schedule will be based on special event schedules and employee status (full-time/seasonal or part-time/seasonal). Scheduled hours may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs. Part-time work is available pre/post the summer season (mid-April to late-October).

Responsibilities
The duties performed by Masters-at-Arms include:
Conducting waterborne security patrols and interdiction operations.
Performing U.S. Customs inspections and base security patrols.
Implementing aircraft and flightline security standards.
Conducting law enforcement operations and river security missions.
Providing protective services to high-ranking dignitaries and government officials.
Supervising K-9 explosive and narcotics detection operations.
Performing physical security inspections and preliminary investigations into UCMJ violations.
Organizing and training security force personnel.
Operating brigs (jails) and conducting crime prevention programs.
What to Expect
MAs may serve at shore stations in the U.S. and overseas, aboard ships, or as part of maritime expeditionary security squadrons. Their work environment varies widely depending on individual assignments.
Work Environment
MAs spend about 60% of their time assigned to fleet units and 40% to shore stations over a 20-year career. They may serve in expeditionary security locations worldwide, providing landward and seaward security in support of Joint Service operations.
Training & Advancement
After completing Recruit Training, MAs attend a 10-week A school in San Antonio, TX, where they learn antiterrorism techniques, armed sentry/post standing techniques, crime prevention, military and civil law, physical fitness, communications, first aid, firearms deployment, and physical restraint techniques. Promotion opportunities are excellent for motivated personnel.
