DB2 z/OS System Administrator
Job Summary
BetaNXT provides comprehensive hosted services for retail brokerage customers’ end-to-end business
operations. The core of these services runs on multiple IBM Parallel Sysplex environments utilizing
IBM’s DB2 z/OS in a high-performance, highly-available data-sharing configuration. This DB2 Systems
Administrator role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and administration of the DB2 z/OS
subsystem and associated support products to support the demands of the fast-paced, time-critical
financial trading industry.
Essential Responsibilities
• Installation/maintenance of IBM DB2 software and related 3rd
-party products utilizing SMP/E.
This includes working with IBM and other vendors to address product defects, issues, and usage
questions.
• Configuration of DB2 groups and subsystems in SYSPLEX data-sharing environment, supporting
IBM CICS, batch COBOL, and distributed access applications.
• Perform problem analysis and resolution, both technical and application related
• Performance and capacity tuning of system parameters and resources, utilizing various
monitoring and reporting tools.
• Responsible for DB2 availability and recovery strategies and procedures
• Documentation of policies and procedures in compliance with ISO 27002 standards.
• Provide secondary and level 2 support for the DBA staff on system issues, application
performance and overall DB2 issues.
Qualifications
• 10+ years IBM System Z experience and concepts, with considerable knowledge in the following:
o SMP/E
o IBM DB2 utilities, BMC Mainview for DB2 and CA Tools for DB2, particularly Detector,
Subsystem analyzer, RC migrator and Fast unload
o Experience with DB2 z/OS as a distributed server
o FLASH technology, DASD replication techniques
o z/OS Storage management
o RACF security management w/DB2
o Coupling Facility
o Networking concepts (IP, SNA)
o WLM concepts
o USS
• 5+ years IBM DB2 experience, with advanced knowledge in the following:
o Bufferpool/memory management
o DB2 internal structures (RID, EDM, BPs, etc.)
o Tablespace/Page structures
o Backup/recovery/logging facilities and strategies
o DB2 locking
o ZPARMS
o DB2 tracing/IFCIDs
• Experience in problem determination and analysis
• Analytical / critical / “outside-the-box” thinking in problem solving, especially in possible critical,
high-pressure situations.
