Peters began his career when he joined a small group of entrepreneurs to found Office Club, a revolutionary big box office supply concept. Office Club went from concept to public offering in less than five years. Office Club eventually merged with Office Depot (ODP) where Peters helped lead the combined companies to significant expansion and Growth.

Later Peters served as President of U.S. Retail for Staples, Inc.(SPLS). During Peters three year tenure, Staples domestic sales grew by more than $3.3 Billion while the market cap of the company more than tripled.

Jim, being a California native wished to return to his roots and moved back to California to assume the responsibilities as President and Chief Operating Officer of Ross Stores (ROST). Through expansion into new markets and creation of required infrastructure, Peters oversaw a welcomed turnaround resulting in the tripling of sales to more than $2 billion annually and growing the company's market capitalization by more than $4 Billion.
