Sentinel is currently seeking a Low Voltage Cabling Designer to be a vital part of our team that will design and implement the installation of structured cabling for construction projects at our client sites throughout the Chicagoland area. Your expertise in low voltage technology will ensure the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the building and structures. This position does require 40 hours/week but does allow for some flexibility. This position reports to our Downers Grove, IL headquarters and requires the person to onsite at various locations throughout the city of Chicago, IL.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience with Low Voltage Cabling Designing
Must have a basic understanding of and installation requirements for networking, low voltage structured cabling.
Ability to complete construction documents including drawings and specifications for a complete bid package.
Must have the ability to handle multiple projects at once
Must have low voltage wiring experience to include; access points, fiber optics and copper design and data cabling
Proficiency in AutoCAD or other related design software for creating low voltage system drawings is a preferred
Must have an in depth understanding of local and national electrical and low voltage codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Must have strong communication skills to communicate effectively

Regularly represents the firm while interacting with clients, consultants, contractors and public authorities
Serves as a mentor to less-experienced staff on the team
With the assistance of Business Development and Marketing staff, obtains feedback from clients regarding the quality of the team's services
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a professional, collaborative, creative, open office environment. As is customary in the industry for professional design staff, “full-time” will exceed 2,080 hours over the course of the year. Great flexibility in your schedule is both required of you and returned to you due to our many project deadlines. A variety of travel is likely - mostly local and regional - as it relates to servicing clients and your professional development.

Perkins Eastman offers paid summer internship positions for students. Our college interns are offered a collaborative and congenial work environment with an opportunity to work on projects as fully integrated members of our design teams participating in learning sessions focusing on various aspects of delivering a successful project for our clients. Participants will also enjoy the rich and diverse culture of the firm and the broader community through lectures, project tours and events.
Job Responsibilities:
* Responsible for project work, as assigned by the team leadership, in various phases of the project.
* Participates in design development with the client and team, through various means of communication and delivery.
Qualifications:
* Currently enrolled in Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Business or Design Planning Programs or have completed the third year of an undergraduate
* No prior work experience required.
* Excellent presentation, written, verbal and communication skills.
* Possess outstanding analytical and interpersonal skills.
* Comfortable communicating design concepts and processes.
* Experience in business strategy and workplace planning and design a plus.
* Proficient with software such as AutoCAD, Revit (a plus), Adobe Suite software, Affinity suite software, Visualization. Illustrator; Sketchup, 3D software such as Rhino and Grasshopper, InDesign, PowerPoint, Excel, and other data management software.
