Dawson's Electric & Air is a family-owned service company providing electrical and HVAC solutions across the Triangle area. We're looking for a full-time, on-site, detail-oriented and proactive Dispatcher to coordinate our daily operations and keep our team of electricians and HVAC technicians running efficiently and on time.
What You'll Do
Dispatch licensed electricians and HVAC technicians to service calls based on skillset, job type, and location
Manage and adjust daily schedules to ensure maximum team productivity and customer satisfaction
Work closely with our Customer Service Representatives to match calls with technician availability
Make outbound calls to confirm, schedule, or reschedule service appointments
Answer inbound calls with professionalism and urgency
Maintain accurate records, job notes, and calendar updates in our scheduling system
Coordinate appointment logistics and support office operations as needed

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DISPATCHER / SCHEDULER

This entails a candidate being able to work independently in a high-stress environment while receiving and evaluating incoming emergency and administrative requests for emergency services, including but not limited to law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS); triaging those requests for service; providing guidance and assistance to the public in life-safety situations; and coordinating appropriate responses to high-risk, high-stress operations, with the objective of keeping all participants safe. Work is performed under the supervision of the Communications Shift Supervisor and is evaluated through observation, monitoring of radio communication, discussion and review of reports. Work is performed inside the Emergency Communications Center. The workload can fluctuate from minimal to extremely fast-paced and high call volume. This employee could deal with crisis situations that require them to make quick decisions to ensure safety of callers, responders, managing resources. The Telecommunicator must be able to work all shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays. The Telecommunicator must be able to adapt and cope with stressful situations, emotional callers, and other unprofessional contacts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
* Receives Emergency and Non-Emergency calls for service via phone, radio or other means of Communication.
* The Telecommunicator will operate a variety of electronic equipment, including telephony, and Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) to maintain constant contact with Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS personnel.
* Operates a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, along with his/her training, policies, protocols and procedures to screen calls for service. This employee should be able to promptly answer the calls professionally, regardless of if the call is received via telephone, text, video or other method.
* Providing pre-arrival and post-dispatch instructions during high-stress situations, such as CPR, Active Shooter, Childbirth, Callers in Danger, etc.
* The Telecommunicator will ascertain such information by obtaining the location of the emergency, the nature of the emergency, and all pertinent and available information.
* The Telecommunicator will utilize the International Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD), Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD), and Emergency Police Dispatch (EPD) to protocol process and prioritize calls for service.
* Using training and operational policies, protocols, and procedures to take appropriate action including, but not limited to: relaying critical information, and dispatching/initiating the emergency response system.

Work involves frequent public contact which requires tact, firmness and decisiveness in obtaining necessary information from people who are under extreme stress. Work is performed in accordance with departmental policy and state and federal law, supplemented with specific directions from sworn personnel. Work is often performed under stressful emergency conditions. The employee must be alert and possess the ability to make split second critical decisions regarding citizens lives and property.
The employees are subject to inside environmental conditions. Work is evaluated through observation, discussion and review of reports by the Telecommunications Supervisor through feedback from officers and emergency management personnel.
* Receives routine and emergency telephone calls and personal request for assistance concerning crimes, fire, animal control, home health, or general information concerning addresses and nature of problems.
* Operates equipment to maintain contact with law enforcement personnel and other law enforcement units; dispatches deputies to answer requests for assistance; receives and transmits information and messages.
* Operates equipment to maintain contact with various personnel in dispatching fire departments, rescue squads, police departments, social services, juvenile officers, wrecker services, Red Cross, highway patrol, and emergency management personnel.
* Operates Division of Criminal Information (DCI) terminal to send and receive messages regarding criminal histories, vehicle identification, NCIC hot files, missing persons, license plate records, driver histories, and query system for pawn shop transactions, and related work.
* Maintains an in-house computer database and communications logs and reports including the nature of calls, actions taken and the times involved; and generates reports for recovered or stolen property, missing persons, and residence checks.
* Considerable knowledge of the operation of a law enforcement and emergency communications system and related Federal Communications Commission regulations.
* Considerable knowledge of the geographic layout of the County, and the locations of streets, important buildings, and other landmarks.
* Working knowledge of the functions, practices and procedures of the Sheriff's Department.
* Working knowledge of various emergency situations in order to provide standing order advice to victims.
* Ability to accurately receive and transmit radio communications.
* Ability to assess people and situations, to apply sound judgment, to remain calm under stressful conditions and to elicit sufficient and essential information for dispatching and assisting field personnel.
* Ability to type.
* Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
* Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
* Graduation from high school
* Some related communications, dispatching or reception work experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
* Valid NC Driver's License
