Answers incoming emergency and non-emergency voice and Telecommunication Device for the Deaf (TDD) calls: determines nature of call and correct signal and/or code; simultaneously enters information into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System; and advises supervisors of all priority calls.
Provides lifesaving and pre-arrival instructions to callers in emergency medical situations: remains available to callers while units are in route; and checks medical status.

Identifies incorrect or outdated information contained in the CAD: and completes update form for changes of street names and/or addresses, and submits to supervision for verification.
Testifies in Court: may be called to testify as the owner of a voice on and E-911 recording and/or to be a witness that a call was received.
Dispatches the appropriate agency personnel to scene through use of radio and CAD System: coordinates multi-unit and multi-jurisdictional response calls; maintains awareness of available response units; dispatches calls to available units; maintains contact with response units to provide information and instructions regarding emergencies; and assists in the coordination of correct response.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of work experience that shows the ability to maintain steady employment in any field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Nature of Work
The fundamental reason this position exists is to perform emergency dispatching of fire and/or police units in response to fire and criminal incidents, natural disasters, accidents, medical emergencies. The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority's (MNAA) selection process can be lengthy, based on the position, and as such a candidate may anticipate this process to last up to three (3) months. Job Summary: The Public Safety Dispatcher is responsible for performing dispatch functions for Airport Police and Fire, airport surveillance, monitoring access control systems, receiving calls, querying criminal databases, and conducting day to day administrative tasks in the Nashville International Airport's 24-hour Airport Communications Center.

Purpose of Job
The purpose of this job is to perform specialized work duties involving receiving/processing requests for emergency assistance within the telecommunications section. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to; receiving, classifying and prioritizing incoming emergency calls; dispatching appropriate police and emergency personnel; operating telephones, communications equipment and law enforcement computers; acting as a liaison between callers and police/fire/emergency representatives; and performing additional tasks as assigned.

Answers the telephone; evaluates and processes calls; provides information; takes and relays messages and/or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary.
Receives, monitors, and dispatches radio communications traffic for Police, Fire and Sheriff's Departments and all E-911 calls.
Receives and screens all incoming telephone calls from the public and from other police/public safety agencies; categorizes and prioritizes calls; receives calls and takes messages for police personnel.
Dispatches appropriate agency personnel to incident locations; dispatches backup units, ambulances, fire fighters and wreckers as appropriate.
Provides field officers with necessary information upon request, including license, insurance, tag and warrant checks, background info or persons locations.
Conveys information to general public, public safety agencies, businesses, utilities and other police personnel within the department.
Makes written reports from telephone information; generates incident card for calls necessitating action by field units.
Maintains continuous log of incoming telephone/radio calls and officer availability; monitors position of field officers.
Maintains wrecker list, arrest log, BOLO log, extra patrol log, barred list log, and record of house check calls and cancellations.
Monitors and routes incoming messages from national and state computer networks; enters/removes information as requested into National, state and department computer system, including information on missing persons, stolen articles, wanted persons, etc.
Monitors and routes incoming calls from Civil Defense and National Weather Service.
Monitors alarm board; logs burglar/fire alarm calls.
Tests all Fire Department radio equipment at beginning of day shift
May assist in training new Communications Officers.
Performs basic computer maintenance tasks.
Responds to routine requests for information from officials, employees, and members of the staff, the public or other individuals.
Prepares and/or generates routine correspondence, letters, memoranda, forms, reports and other documents via computer and/or typewriter.
Uses knowledge of various software programs to operate a computer in an effective and efficient manner.

Nature of Work
The fundamental reason this position exists is to perform the technical work needed to process calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance, and to dispatch fire and police responders to those requests for services. The work responsibilities of this position include answering emergency and administrative calls, providing pre-arrival and post-dispatch instructions as warranted, and dispatching the most appropriate emergency response personnel using a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and a land mobile radio network. Employees in this position will learn to dispatch radio systems for fire and police. Public Safety Communications Dispatchers are direct reports to the Public Safety Communications Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications

Rhodes College will be closed for Winter Break December 20, 2025-January 4, 2026. The Campus Safety Dispatcher is responsible for accomplishing the mission of the Campus Safety Department, to provide for both the security and safety of the Rhodes community. The Dispatcher's schedule will be Wednesday - Thursday from 6:45AM - 3PM, Friday from 12PM - 8PM, AND Saturday - Sunday from 2:45PM - 11PM. This position is 40 hours per week. Shift is subject to change based on the needs of the college.
Job Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or GED required.
* One-year minimum in dispatching or comparable organizational experience (e.g. customer service representative, computer aided dispatching, administrative/office support) preferred.
