As a Service Dispatcher, you will have the opportunity to support our Service Department with scheduling daily service activities for a team of HVAC and Plumbing service technicians within an assigned region. The Service Dispatcher will serve as a vital link between SVM's commercial customers and field technicians, ensuring the accurate scheduling of field technicians and the highest level of customer service is upheld.
What you will do
Schedule routine maintenance visits, service calls and quoted repairs for assigned technician team.
Evaluates incoming service requests, determining their nature and urgency, and assign an available technician with the required skillset.
Monitors assigned team's technician schedule to ensure the timely completion of service calls, promptly notifying relevant personnel of any availability changes.
Generate work orders (WOs) and audit submitted WOs from field team, ensuring hours worked, work performed, and PO number referenced.
Create, update, and maintain customer accounts within the system, ensuring notes reflect site protocols for our field technicians.
Monitor Technician's service call progress, advising for follow-ups as required.
Communicate with customers, both verbally and written, to coordinate schedules, address incoming inquiries, and provide timely updates on technician arrival times and any service-related information.
Escalate recommended solutions and warranty inquiries as needed to the area Foremen and assigned Account Manager.
Submit necessary paperwork upon completion of assigned jobs including WOs, POs, and Special Reports.
Prepares monthly reports for the Lead Dispatcher outlining assigned technician team's PM hours and open WO's.
Transition incoming calls into Service leads.
Approve Technician's schedule, ensuring Foreman are notified of any availability changes.
Support Service Admin with timecard related questions.
Support the Service department with other tasks and projects as business requires.
Education, Skills & Experience
3+ years' experience in a customer service or similar role required.
Prior experience as a Dispatcher highly preferred.
2+ years' experience working with a mechanical contractor highly preferred.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience) required.
Highly proficient with various office equipment and programs including MS Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) required.
Working knowledge of HVAC systems and common terminology utilized highly preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
Ability to maintain professional relationships with internal team members and customers required.
Proven ability to be an effective multitasker with great time management and organizational skills required.

This is a full-time exempt position. The compensation for this role is $75,000 - $110,000 annually and is based on experience and skillset.

This Dispatcher position is a non-exempt, temporary staff position which assists management within the Public Safety department. This position is scheduled to work a 4/10 alternative work schedule and operates on a rotation schedule, with evenings, weekends, and on-call rotation duties. Responsibilities
The Dispatcher will receive incoming calls for service and emergencies; provide assistance to those who come to the public counter of the Public Safety Department. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Public Safety Dispatcher provides technical communications support and computer information processing for police and fire activities as well as animal control and public services functions. In addition to call taking and dispatching, incumbents perform varied record keeping, information retrieval, and similar work in support of public safety activities. Incumbents are expected to exercise independent judgment in the performance of their duties with minimum supervision.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Public Safety Dispatcher I: This is the trainee-level classification in the Dispatcher series. Trainees work in the communications center and receive on the job training, specific day-to-day direction and are closely supervised. Incumbents at this level are not expected to function with the same amount of knowledge or skills as positions allocated to the II and Senior levels of the series. Initially under immediate supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine duties in support of public safety communications. Duties include frequent interaction with the public via telephone in both emergency and non-emergency situations. The position requires incumbents to receive, relay and provide accurate information, forms and reports to others within established legal guidelines. Once a Public Safety Dispatcher I completes training, and as incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently, general supervision and frequent review of work lessen. Positions at this level develop the skills to perform most of the duties required of positions at the II level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.
Public Safety Dispatcher II: This is the journey level classification in the Public Safety Dispatcher Series. Positions at this level have completed training and are fully competent to perform the full range of assigned duties. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Senior Public Safety Dispatcher in that the latter performs the complex work assigned to the series and is responsible for providing lead direction and training to lower-level staff in the series.
Positions in the Public Safety Dispatcher class series are flexibly staffed; positions at the II-level may be filled by advancement from the I-level; progression to the II-level is dependent on (i) management affirmation that the position is performing the full range of duties assigned to the classification; (ii) satisfactory work performance; (iii) the incumbent meeting the minimum qualifications for the classification including any licenses and certifications; and (iv) management approval for progression to the II-level.

Certifications and Licenses:

* Possess and maintain a Basic Dispatcher Course certificate issued by the California State Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T). by the end of the probationary period.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The major duties of the Public Safety Dispatcher position include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Serves as a dispatcher for the US Park Police, applying in-depth knowledge of dispatch operating systems, databases, and equipment, as well as knowledge of dispatch policies and past practices to isolate and solve unusual and difficult technical problems.
* Performs dispatch and call taking services for a wide variety of complex public safety related incidents and operations.
* Coordinates rescue, ambulance, and helicopter operations, etc., of various agencies.
* Receives and evaluations emergency calls for service.
* Provides dispatch support to law enforcement activities.
* Queries & relays wants, warrants, drive and vehicle status, Be on the Lookout (BOL), and Attempt to Locate (ATL) information for law enforcement contact and investigations.
* Serves as a certified operator of National Criminal Information Network (NCIC), National Law Enforcement Communications System (NLETS), and state criminal information networks (i.e., ACCESS, TLETS, VCIN, etc). Accesses, analyzes, and utilizes information from a variety of national, state,
* Monitors a variety of alarm systems including intrusion, fire, robbery, panic, and maintenance related systems. Analyze alarms. Ensures appropriate response. Reports on alarm systems troubles.

Pay Information:
A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.
GS-6 range: $56,205 to $73,063 per year
GS-7 range: $62,456 to $81,198 per year

Physical Demands: Incumbent must function efficiently in a confined space for extended periods with no breaks and no opportunity to leave the confines of the Communications Center. The dispatcher is considered an "essential employee" meaning they are required to work most holidays, report for duty during adverse weather conditions, and be expected to work for long hours exceeding normally scheduled shifts in case of emergencies. Position is sedentary with high amounts of stress. Incumbent is subject to shift work, rotating shift work, and uncommon tours of duty. Work requires use of the voice in vocal communications for periods of hours at a time. Voice must be clear, audible, and tone effective with words plainly spoken and understandable. Incumbent must be able to hear clearly and discern a variety of audible communications and signals simultaneously. Incumbent must be able to read critical information from multiple sources, including computer screen, fax, and written log quickly and accurately. The work is of an emergency nature and is emotionally stressful. Incumbent must possess manual dexterity sufficient to operate computer terminals/keyboards and related equipment and to maintain written logs. Work involves occasional lifting of boxes and supplies up to weights of 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: The work is normally performed in a well-lighted and temperature-controlled room. Noise levels are routinely high due to electronic equipment, telephones, radios, and other discussions ongoing in the performance of duties. The setting is typically confined and secure, and entrance and egress is controlled.
During the training period and/or on other occasions, the incumbent will be assigned to accompany a field law enforcement personnel in patrol vehicles to learn or gain a more detailed familiarization with agency operating procedures and jurisdictional boundaries.
Incumbent may not leave the center unless relieved by another qualified dispatcher.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are not suitable for telework.

This is the entry level in the emergency communications dispatcher classification series responsible for learning and applying methods, techniques and practices in police, fire and emergency medical dispatching. Initially, incumbents work in a training capacity to learn all aspects of police, fire and emergency medical dispatching. As experience accrues, the incumbent performs with increasing independence. This class is distinguished from the 8239 Public Safety Communications Supervisor in that the latter exercises full supervisory responsibilities over staff and the work of the unit.
Job Description
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
According to Civil Service Commission Rule 109, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive list.
1. Receives emergency calls and obtains information to determine facts; evaluates such information to determine what type of response is necessary and dispatches the required police, fire or medical service.
2. Dispatches police, fire and emergency medical personnel and equipment on both routine and emergency calls to specific locations utilizing a Computer Aided Dispatch system, multiple video display terminal, radio console and related equipment.
3. Operates a two-way radio system in communicating with a number of mobile units in the field to receive and transmit emergency service messages and information.
4. Evaluates incoming reports of police, fire and medical emergencies; immediately transmits complete and accurate information to appropriate field personnel.
5. Monitors, coordinates and accurately maintains the status of incidents and records of dispatched emergency service personnel and apparatus.
6. Responds to public inquiries regarding emergency medical service, fire rescue, police assistance, crimes, violations and other offenses; properly classifies and prioritizes any report or complaint information and determines appropriate course of action.
7. Receives and disseminates information from other law enforcement and emergency service computer networks related to jurisdictional requests for fire or medical service assistance, or to notices of wanted persons, stolen property, warrants and all-points bulletins.
8. Maintains record of all calls received and prepares reports of critical incidents.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Principles, practices and procedures of emergency communications for police, fire and emergency medical dispatching; call evaluation techniques; general geography of city roads, streets, highways, public facilities and buildings; federal and state regulations governing the operation of communications systems for transmitting emergency information and dispatching personnel and equipment; proper office procedures and record-keeping techniques.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. Education: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED or High School Proficiency Examination).
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in a public contact position providing information and/or a service, or in a position where the primary responsibility is interacting with people.
License and Certification: None
Substitution: Completion of thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units of coursework from an accredited college or university may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience as described above.

Working Conditions: Public Safety Communications Dispatchers work in a fast-paced, highly stressful, and confined environment, wear headsets which restrict physical movement in the work area, and sit or stand and view video displays for extended periods of time. Dispatchers work 8-hour or 10-hour shifts, or longer, and may be assigned to work various schedules which include day shift, swing shift, night shift, weekends, holidays, and overtime. Must be willing and able to respond, report, and mobilize as necessary.

The Sacramento Communications Center is a public safety answering point. Employees answer 9-1-1, public, allied agency telephone lines as well as making outgoing calls to service providers, allied agencies and citizens. PSD's provide radio dispatching services to seven CHP offices. PSD's must document information in a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System accurately, quickly and take the appropriate action on each call. Employees work various shifts, including weekends and holidays. They are required to work overtime as needed. They must consistently report to work on time with a minimum of absences.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a structured and often stressful work environment that includes structured breaks and lunch schedules. Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

2. Elicits information from callers to ensure a proper response; documents complaints; determines appropriate jurisdiction; decides and takes proper action to resolve complaints; determines dispatch priorities.

5. Maintains a working knowledge of laws and regulations from the State of California, Department of Justice and Federal Communications Commission as well as internal policies and procedures.
