The position and is scheduled to work a 4/10 alternative work schedule and operates on a rotation schedule, with evenings, weekends, and on-call rotation duties. Must be able to work varying shifts as assigned. A DMV record check is required before and during employment. Continued employment is subject to satisfactory DMV records review.

Required Qualifications
High School diploma Successful completion of 911 dispatch course within the first 365 days of employment. Chapman will provide. Must have and maintain in good standings, a valid California Driver's License. Experience working in professional office with multiple demands. 4. Sit-Along (Qualifying): allows applicants to shadow a Police Services Dispatcher to experience the day-to-day of the position.
5. Oral Interview Examination: (Weighted 50%) candidates will meet with Police Communications staff, who will evaluate each their training, experience, education, and personal qualifications for the position.
NOTE: Candidates must pass every component listed above in order to be placed on the eligible list. Following the completion of the aforementioned civil service recruitment process, the Police Department will receive the names of candidates eligible for hiring consideration and will contact candidates directly to schedule departmental selection interviews with the Police Communications Manager or designee.
Candidates who pass the departmental selection interview will be referred to the background unit for a thorough police background investigation. Contents of the background file and results of the background investigation may also be reviewed by the Police Chief prior to selection. The review of suitability for employment will include an examination by a licensed psychologist, a polygraph examination, and a medical examination.
Bilingual Oral Fluency Examination (If applicable): will evaluate ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish. This component may be administered prior to hire date. THE POSITION

The Chino Police Department is seeking highly motivated individuals to apply for the position of Public Safety Dispatcher I. The Police Communications Center is comprised of 17 Public Safety Dispatchers and three (3) Public Safety Dispatch Supervisors. Duties/Responsibilities
This is the entry-level class in the public safety dispatching class series. Public Safety Dispatcher I's learn to perform dispatching related duties and responsibilities. Advancement to Public Safety Dispatcher II requires an incumbent to successfully complete the Dispatching In-Service Training Program. Advancement to the next level is not automatic and requires an evaluation by management of the incumbent's skill and performance levels. This is a civilian position.
Essential Functions:
* Receive requests for Police and emergency services over the phone; answer 911 calls; screen incoming calls to determine necessity, priority, and type of response required; monitor other radio frequencies to be aware of incidents elsewhere that may affect operations.
* Dispatch, as necessary, Police and other emergency units in response to calls for service or requests from Officers in the field; use appropriate terminology and cite Code sections by number; call public and private agencies, such as allied law enforcement, hospitals, towing services and utilities, and request mutual assistance when necessary.
* Keep track of Police unit locations and status; maintain constant radio communication with personnel in the field; run warrant checks on subjects, registration checks on vehicles, and property checks; relay information and instructions to personnel in the field.
* Maintain accurate log of incoming service requests and actions taken; prepare other reports and records as directed; maintain files necessary for dispatch as assigned; enter, update, and retrieve information from the computer and teletype networks.
* Operate a variety of public safety telecommunications equipment; test and inspect equipment as needed.

The Police Department's Communications Center is comprised of 17 Public Safety Dispatchers and three (3) Public Safety Dispatch Supervisors. Work Environment:
The position is required to work a "3/12 schedule" (three 12-hour shifts) per week. This includes working the graveyard shift.

Minimum Qualifications:
