    Public Safety Dispatchers operate phone and radio communications equipment to provide 9-1-1 emergency services and non-emergency assistance for ten law enforcement, twenty fire and six ambulance services in Benton County. They are responsible for processing incoming calls, providing pre-arrival instructions to callers, and dispatching the appropriate responding agencies. Personnel work shifts that include working nights, weekends, holidays and are subject to change in order to meet the needs of the Communications Center and its operational needs. Regular, reliable attendance, managing multiple duties and responsibilities simultaneously, being a team player in a challenging, high-stress work environment, and getting along well with others are essential elements of this position. Other duties may be assigned. Minimum Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     Under the supervision of the Customer Solutions Center Manager the Interfacility/911 Dispatcher will be responsible for pre-dispatching vehicles for the next day. During this pre-assignment they will be responsible to ensure there are adequate resources to meet the call volume scheduled including a pre-determined overflow volume. The dispatcher will receive phone calls from out of state 911, hospital nursing floors, outpatient satellites, and private residences with request for transportation. Dispatchers will assign called to ambulance units based on level of care (BLS&ALS) efficiently and accurately. Dispatcher will at times need to re-arrange calls that are preassigned in case of vehicular breakdowns, traffic, and ASAP call requests. The dispatcher will be responsible for utilizing TraumaSoft to assign the trips to the vehicles based on the crew members scheduled and ensure that the vehicles have adequate time with the assigned calls to meet specified customers' needs and response standards. The Dispatcher while pre-dispatching for the next day may will be in close consultation with management to call in staff earlier for their next day shift and or additional staff for more shifts to ensure they can pre-dispatch the transports to the vehicles without inhibiting customer service and or required response performance standards. At times, the dispatcher will act as a call-taker/communicator. Role and Responsibilities HS Graduate One year experience as a BMT Communicator or equivalent. Ability to work 12 hour shifts in length (at minimum) in a 24-hour environment - schedule is four days on and four days off Maintain prompt and regular attendance and agree to mandatory holdovers when relief is not available (not to exceed 24 hours) Ability to prioritize decisions based upon multiple criteria and identifiable standards of policies and procedures. The 15 position communications center processes 911 and non-emergency requests for Emergency Medical Services from our coverage area which spans multiple states. The center provides dispatch and support services to the fleet of Pafford EMS ground and air ambulances on a 24 hour basis, 365 days per year. Applicants must be professional, mature, team oriented, and customer service driven. Pafford EMS will provide all necessary training for entry level applicants. This is truly an exciting job opportunity, where no two days are the same and the staff enjoys the ability to help others in their greatest time of need. Entry Level Position- paid training and certifications provided to applicants who meet the minimum requirements outlined in the job summary. Salary Range: $13.00 to $15.00 Hourly Reports to: Director of Communications Answer 9-1-1, emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, hospitals/ health care providers and from other public safety agencies. Monitor multiple computer screens, while efficiently gathering, prioritizing, and documenting caller information. Provide callers with the appropriate pre-arrival instructions in accordance with protocol and procedure and dispatch emergency medical (EMS) services to the caller. All Telecommunicators may be assigned to perform various duties for an entire shift on a rotating schedule, as necessary for the operation of the communications center. Operate Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), two-way radio, and other sophisticated communications equipment systems. Perform related duties as assigned. Examples of Work Performed: Receive, prioritize, and often handle multiple, simultaneous emergency and administrative phone calls for assistance, such as but not limited to, car accidents, medical emergencies, hospital transfers, and requests for air medical evacuation. Process requests for emergency and non-emergency ambulance service, that often require referring to or memorizing detailed reference materials and standard operating procedures, including databases, maps, telephone listings, and other resources. Identify, through appropriate and timely questioning of the caller, the nature of the problem. Summarize the critical information for public safety first responders in the computer aided dispatch system using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and refer and classify calls for assistance according to the level of response required, as outlined in the policy and procedure guidelines. Access and operate computer data bases and search websites as necessary. Provide administrative support to the corporate office, such as referring callers to the patient accounts department and administrative offices. Receive and transmit information effectively by radio and telephone. Receive requests by radio, phone, electronic format or fax from law enforcement, fire/medical personnel, and other public safety agencies to, access, enter, retrieve and disseminate information; prioritize and effectively relay information in proper format to requesting agency. Contact outside public service agencies as requested and relay information as required. Minimum Qualifications: Education: High school graduation or equivalent. Experience: Two years of work or volunteer experience, where public contact via telephone, computer use and data entry were part of the responsibilities; or a college degree can substitute for the two years of work experience. Desirable Qualifications: Work experience preferably in a customer service or public relations environment and the ability to speak and understand English for effective communication with callers. Ability to speak a foreign language is a bonus. An outgoing, positive personality and professional work ethic is essential. The desire and willingness to be part of a team. Improper performance of duties can result in a negative public image for the agency due to inefficiency in handling calls or poor public relations skills; decreased safety to emergency responders and the public due to the provision of inaccurate information, delays in response or in appropriate dispatch of response units. Consequences of errors range from a simple delay in service to loss of life. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Required at Entry: Ability to perform oriented tasks efficiently and accurately in a fast paced, high stress environment.
