Carlow University invites applications for the position of Dispatcher. This position is to act as a Liaison between all visitors, staff, faculty, and students as well as all outside public safety agencies responding to emergencies on campus. properly determine the level of service needed in emergency and non-emergency situations and dispatch the appropriate personnel. Monitors security system, surveillance system, and fire alarm systems and reports alarms to the University Police and County 9-1-1 Center as needed. Contact appropriate staff members for after hour problems (leaks, IT concerns, HVAC problems, lockouts, others) and quickly exercise good judgment in emergency situations, follow oral and written procedures and to maintain communication with all persons involved.
Additional Duties:
Monitors the main entry to the Residence Halls and ensures the visitors are signed in and issued a visitor pass.
Enters all pertinent information into the police programs used by the department and documents all police officer daily activities.
Issues temporary parking permits to visitors and staff as needed and processes and issues Staff and Student parking permits per semester.
Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police or Communication Supervisor.

Applicant must possess at least one year of verifiable experience using telecommunication systems in public safety.
APCO Basic Public Safety/Emergency Telecommunications training is preferred. Must be willing and able to pass the APCO Basic Safety/Emergency Telecommunications training within six months of the date of hire. Training is paid for by the University.
Applicant must pass a Police Background check including fingerprinting to be certified to retrieve sensitive police data using the JNET computer program and must be able to pass all certification testing for the JNET program within one month from the date of hire.
Qualifications:

POSITION SUMMARY:

POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible communications work relaying information to campus police officers. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives, acknowledges, records and reports all incoming radio transmissions and telephone calls and relays information to police officers and to other appropriate personnel or agencies by use of ARMS Computer Aided Dispatch software.
Dispatches University Police personnel for emergency responses and for routine details as required and transmits supplemental information on specific incidents or general police information as received.
Proficiently operates of all security systems, to include but not limited to, activating the Outside Warning System, DU Emergency Alert and/or emergency lockdown procedures when deemed appropriate.
Dispatches Facilities Management personnel for maintenance problems reported to base.
Monitors city police scanner and alerts police personnel to any activity reported in the area immediately adjacent to campus.
Monitors all alarm systems, cameras, card access and remote lock doors. Report safety concerns, security breaches and unusual circumstances immediately to the appropriate supervisor.
Calls Index at request of officers for information related to vehicles and arrests.
Completes other duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist Central Service Manager in the following:
Coordinating and ensuring the timely and accurate dispatch of Road Mechanics so they can efficiently service equipment
Creating and monitor road mechanic's schedules.
Creating and monitor receipt and maintenance schedules for company equipment.
Review daily and weekly driver logs in accordance with company and DOT standards.
Perform daily truck inspections in accordance with company and DOT standards.
Work closely with other store locations in order to assist them in meeting their customer's equipment needs.
Handle customer complaints in a professional manner in order to resolve the complaint to the satisfaction of the customer and Sunbelt Rentals.
Report problems to supervisor in a timely and accurate manner and follow-up to ensure problem resolution
Provide adequate feedback to the Region or District PC's regarding the timely delivery and receipt of equipment.
Follow Standard Operating Procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Education
Working knowledge of the DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
Customer Service & Dispatch training a plus
At least two years prior knowledge of the applications of various construction/industrial equipment.
Working knowledge of the delivery area.
Able to effectively communicate.
Lift, bend, stoop, squat, reach, crouch and kneel. Sit or stand for long periods of time

Full-time Description
Primary Purpose:
The primary responsibility of the Dispatcher is organizing the daily dispatch of equipment for the branch, working in compliance with all legal and safety requirements regarding the safe transport of equipment.
Essential Functions:
Schedule delivery and pickup routes to utilize time in the most efficient way.
Work with Rental Coordinators to organize all rental contracts, delivery reports and any necessary paperwork for drivers as they start their work shift.
Work with Yard Attendants to insure units are ready and the vehicles are ready for loading.
Perform inventory control processes
Inspect the vehicles and the loads daily, making sure drivers are working safe.
Contact customers to alert them when equipment is on its way.
Conduct morning safety meetings with drivers.
Review all DOT paperwork and permits for accuracy.
Track all trucks repairs and registrations making sure all are up to date.
Collect all paperwork as drivers return to branch and distribute for processing.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma with at least two years' experience working as a dispatcher preferably in construction or industrial equipment company. Prior experience as a truck driver helpful.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite; intermediate skill in Excel required. Experience with main frame database (AS400) extremely helpful.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. May occasionally be exposed to heat, cold, noise, dust, and fumes.
Preferred Skills:
Positive attitude, professional phone demeanor, excellent verbal communication, able to multi-task in fast pace environment, demonstrate understanding of rental equipment and software, strong customer service and effective organizational skills.
