All of this would change in the early 2000’s when the United States Navy placed a request for technology to be created for its ships and submarines.
DARPA approved all 4 of Fiberstars Inc’s submitted projects and in 2003, Fiberstars, Inc received $10,000,000 in grants to advance LED lighting technology further for the United States Navy.
Since 2007, Energy Focus has installed approximately 900,000 lighting products across United States Navy fleet, including TLEDs, waterline security lights, explosion-proof globes and berth lights, saving more than five million gallons of fuel and 300,000 man-hours in lighting maintenance annually.
