Role Overview
The Dredge Project Estimator is a key member of Curtin Maritime's estimating team, responsible for developing accurate, competitive bids for dredging and marine construction projects. This role involves analyzing bid documents, calculating dredge volumes and production rates, preparing detailed cost estimates, identifying risks, and collaborating with operations, procurement, and project management. The estimator supports proposal development from initial review through project award, and transitions estimates to the execution team upon award.

Key Responsibilities
Review RFPs, drawings, specifications, survey data, and geotechnical reports to determine project scope and requirements.
Perform quantity take-offs, production estimates, and cost breakdowns for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors, factoring in mobilization, fuel, booster placement, and pump dynamics.
Evaluate vendor and subcontractor proposals for scope, pricing accuracy, and cost reasonableness; manage historical cost data to support future estimates.
Conduct risk assessments, identify value engineering opportunities, and develop proposal clarifications and schedules.
Prepare bid deliverables including executive summaries, estimate sheets, and technical narratives.
Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and debriefs to gather field data and maintain client relationships.
Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to develop and finalize bids; support project handover by presenting estimate assumptions and resource requirements to the execution team.
Research and evaluate innovative construction methods to improve accuracy, efficiency, and competitiveness.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
Minimum 3 years of estimating or preconstruction experience in marine or heavy civil construction; dredging experience strongly preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with AutoCAD, HYPACK, or other survey/production estimating software.
Strong analytical, mathematical, and technical skills with the ability to interpret plans, specifications, and survey data.
Knowledge of dredging equipment, pump dynamics, pipeline routing, and regulatory requirements (e.g., USACE).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to collaborate across disciplines and prepare professional proposal documents.
Valid driver's license, TWIC card, and ability to travel to project sites; capable of meeting physical requirements for vessel and site work.
Willingness to work flexible schedules and meet deadlines during active bidding periods.

The Estimator & Collections Manager is responsible for performing site inspections, document losses with accurate measurements, notes and photographs with strong attention to detail; estimating the cost of mitigation and reconstruction of the entire project through the use of Xactimate; negotiating reconstruction costs with insurance carrier representatives and collecting payment; communicating with the Project Manager/Team Coordinator on issues that will affect the project schedule and/or budget. This position allows room for growth and the ability to manage others in this department as the company grows.
Estimator & Collections Manager Responsibilities:
Ability to write comprehensive water, mold, fire, asbestos, pack out, pack back, and storage estimates.
Ability to inspect and scope projects in a timely fashion
Strong negotiating skills to reduce negotiable loss/shrinkage and close/collect jobs in a timely manner
Prepare comprehensive and accurate restoration estimates using Xactimate software.
Collaborate and negotiate with insurance adjusters to ensure fair settlements.
Disciplined follow-ups and the ability to escalate claims when necessary to reach the appropriate party to close and collect claims
Present detailed reports and support claims with necessary documentation.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with insurance companies and their representatives.
Work closely with the team to follow up on outstanding payments from insurance carriers and clients.
Work closely with project managers, field staff, and administrative teams to ensure seamless project execution.
Provide guidance and insights to improve efficiency and accuracy in estimates.
Respond to property damage emergency calls when required
Handle estimating inquiries and demonstrate a high level of problem resolution and technical assistance.
Set proper client expectations and meet them
Estimator & Collections Manager Requirements:
5+ years' experience as an estimator, preferably in the restoration/reconstruction industry
Possess a strong construction background and be able to communicate with Insurance Adjusters/Reps that may have very little construction knowledge
Must have knowledge of both residential and commercial reconstruction experience
Proficient in Xactimate.
Possess exceptional organizational and planning skills (detail-oriented person)
Ability to recognize and solve problems independently
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Self-motivated, responsible and accountable
