Estimates project costs as it relates to the MEP Systems. Gathers details and compiles data to estimate all costs according to written scope of work and/or drawings & specifications. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Helps determine necessary resources for projects based on cost estimates and budgetary constraints. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Attends proposed project site visit/assessment. Performs material quantity take-offs & bid preparation. Qualifications: Technical Knowledge: Prepares cost estimates and bid documents for construction projects or services that are reviewed by management before proposal submission. Obtains comparative quotations for materials and subcontractor services. Compares subcontractor proposals with required project scope. Determine completeness. Assembles bid files including all development information that was utilized in preparation of the estimates. Prepare In House Estimate as required for missing trade contractors. Develop appropriate contingencies. Coordinate all sub costs, KB management, general conditions to ensure complete project estimate. Develop RFI's and Clarifications to ensure adequate scope and subcontractor coverage. Read & understand Technical Portion of proposals to ensure all costs are calculated. Maintain tracking log of bid information regularly. Safety and Security: Understands necessity to keep certain project-related documents secure and files appropriately. Security is also observed in e-mail traffic (what documents are sent to parties outside the company). Customer Service: Acts in a professional manner (both verbal and always written) as befitting a company representative. E-mails are concise, letters are properly formatted and well-written, submittal data are turned over in compliance with the contract and task order. Telephone conversations are informative to fit the subject matter being discussed and kept brief. Messages from customers and subcontractors to the management team are delivered promptly and accurately. What you need to win: Education and/or Experience: A bachelor's degree in a related field is desired, but not an absolute requirement. 5+ years in construction field with a minimum of 3 years in estimating Mechanical and/or Electrical Systems, previous field construction work with a strong desire to learn would be a plus. Strong understanding of MEP Systems, especially healthcare type buildings. Abilities: Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of MEP Systems. Read & Interpret Construction Documents (plans & specifications). Considers raw materials, labor, equipment, tools, labor and transportation for estimations. Microsoft Office Products - especially Excel. Excellent Math skills. General understanding of CSI Divisions. Organized and able to effectively manage time to complete multiple proposals at once. Work Environment: An office setting, with most work being on the computer or phone. Potential travel to project site for bid walk meetings. Work under strict time constraints for bid deadlines and bulletins/change orders on multiple current and potential projects.
