The Opportunity The Artificial Intelligence Initiative (Aii) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is accepting applications from strong candidates for multiple 9-month, full-time faculty positions at the rank of assistant professor (tenure-earning) and associate professor or professor (tenured) in core areas of AI and their applications including: Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing, Robotics, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, FinTech, Smart Cities, Connected and Automated Vehicles, Cyber Security, Mathematical Aspects of Deep Learning, Theory of AI and Data Science, Brian-Inspired AI, Biomedical Applications, Smart Materials, Smart Mobility, Genomics and Computational Biology, as well as Innovative Computing domains including but not limited to Optical Computing, Neuromorphic Computing and AI in Next generation of Wireless Communication Systems. Exceptional candidates only will be considered for appointment at full professor level. Position # 2 - Machine Learning and AI for Energy Systems (Host Department: Computer Science and possibly Electrical and Computer Engineering Department): An ideal candidate would have extensive experience applying modern machine learning techniques to solving complex problems within the energy systems. The candidate should have a strong foundation in deep learning techniques (including convolutional neural networks, recurrent neural networks and multi-head attention models). An experience with specialized foundation models is a plus. Distributed infrastructure system optimization, such as real-time optimization of interdependent infrastructure and energy systems using AI and advanced control methods, hybrid physics-informed and data-driven modeling and control for stability and flexibility. Energy system resiliency research, including detection of faults and cyber-attacks, outage prediction under extreme conditions, resilient cybersecurity solutions, and self-healing algorithms. Candidates should demonstrate not only extensive experience in deep learning, reinforcement learning, and unsupervised learning but also evidence in interdisciplinary, human-centric, community-based, and data-driven research on energy systems. Successful candidates will have research impact as reflected in high-quality publications and the ability to build a well-funded and sustainable research program. Appropriately evaluate and maintain records of student progress, including attendance; The specific duties and responsibilities associated with this position include, but are not limited to the following: Cover course content as described in the approved course outline/syllabus, and provide sufficient exposure to the material so that students will satisfactorily proceed to the next course in sequence and/or courses in the program; Follow and enforce safety practices and rules; Provide feedback for students regarding their performance; Meet each assigned class with punctuality and enthusiasm; Implement class activities that will promote maximum learning; Design and ensure that the required minimum laboratory exercises are conducted each semester; Submit reports as requested including class rosters, grade reports, grade books, final examinations; Remain current on developments in trade operations and processes required by industry; Carry out college policies in all aspects that relate to the position; Conduct self as a representative of the college staff when participating in school related functions; Prepare instructional material from the Apprenticeship curriculum that is to be covered in class; Strive to motivate students and facilitate learning by creating a positive environment. The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include: Working knowledge and skill of industrial trade principles, methods, and techniques; Safety skills and the ability to use and maintain industry-related hand and power tools; Knowledge of Computer/Technical Skills; Internet, Word, PowerPoint, Email, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Excel, Word Must be a self-starter, creative in problem solving, exercise good judgments and ethics, and have superior customer service skills; Excellent Communications skills; High school diploma or its equivalent; Minimum of four (4) years' experience in the HVAC trade; Preference shown to applicants with Backflow, EPA and OSHA 10-Hour Construction certifications; Prior teaching or training experience preferred; Recommended: Have training in teaching techniques and adult learning styles. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This position requires an ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of fifty (50) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.
