The University of Michigan Performance Nutrition Department is currently seeking applicants for the United Dairy Industry of Michigan (UDIM) Performance Nutrition Fellowship position. The UDIM Fellow will provide performance nutrition services to Michigan Athletics teams and serve the Olympic Sport student-athlete population.
Position Summary:
The University of Michigan is accepting applications for one (1) full-time, 12-month term-limited Michigan Athletics-UDIM Performance Nutrition Fellowship position effective July 2026 through July 2027. This performance nutrition fellowship will prepare a Registered Dietitian for advanced sports nutrition practice that will optimize student-athlete performance, and improve student-athlete health, welfare, and lifetime wellness through an interdisciplinary model and the utilization of evidence-based practice concepts. Sponsored by the United Dairy Industry of Michigan (UDIM), this fellow will collaborate with UDIM to use science-based nutrition information to promote cow's milk dairy products as part of a healthy diet that delivers both nutrition and health through athlete education programs, cooking demos, grocery store tours, and social media messaging.
This Performance Nutrition Fellowship aims to further the development of Registered Dietitians into proficient and expert level clinicians and future leaders in the field of sports medicine through mentored sports performance education opportunities along with dedicated sport assignments. The Performance Nutrition Fellow will be exposed to multidisciplinary settings of clinical practice, testing, and research, as well as administrative and interpersonal growth and development.

Responsibilities*
* Serve as primary performance nutrition liaison for 4 sports teams; team assignments based on applicant's strengths, interests and department needs.
* Conduct new athlete nutrition screening and assessment.
* Develop nutrition education materials and facilitate team education sessions.
* Conduct nutrition, hydration and body composition assessments; interpretation and communication of results.
* Interpretation of performance lab testing results including iron screening labs (serum Ferritin, CBC).
* Document performance nutrition metrics, including recovery initiatives, team education interventions, individual athlete consults, body composition assessments and progress, and biochemical parameters.
* Evaluate dietary supplements for banned substances; knowledgeable about NCAA, Big 10, WADA/USADA, and Professional Athletic League dietary supplement regulations.
* Plan and coordinate pre- and post-game meals and snacks for home and away competitions.

* Complete capstone project around cow's milk and dairy for college student-athletes.
* Develop and provide education of how to incorporate dairy into recipes.
* Provide education around the importance of including dairy in an athlete's diet.
* Provide education on where Michigan Athletics sources their dairy and the sustainability practices that Michigan Dairy Farmers implement.
* Education to include but not limited to; video creation, new recipe development, virtual grocery store tour.
Required Qualifications*
* Masters degree in Nutrition or Dietetics or related field required.
* Current Registered Dietitian (RD) credential (or RD-eligible) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR); expected to achieve RD status within 60 days of hire.
* Desire to work towards CDR's Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) credential.
* Current CPR and AED certification (re-certification available through UM Athletics).
* Thorough knowledge of nutrition principles as they relate to Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and athletic performance.
* Knowledge of food service quality and food safety procedures.
* Strong and effective oral and written communication skills.
* Strong and effective organization and time management skills with accuracy and attention to detail.
* Knowledge and understanding of unique aspects of collegiate student-athlete populations.

About the Role
The Rural Fellow position at the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation is a 2-year position with the intention of enhancing the AAACF's rural philanthropic presence. The Performance Psychology and Wellness Services Athletic Fellow will have a wide-range of clinical and administrative daily responsibilities to include the provision of treatment that spans the spectrum of care ranging from debilitating emotional distress to optimization of performance, as well as coordinating and providing consultation and relevant training to teams, coaches, Student-Athlete Health & Welfare personnel, and other Athletics team members. Performance Psychology and Wellness Services Fellow training follows a phased-in approach, starting with foundations in Mental Health and Performance Services. As they advance in their work the Athletic Counseling Fellow will have the opportunity to focus their training in an area of interest such as Eating Disorders, LGBTQIA2S, Injury, OCD, AOD etc. In addition, the Performance Psychology and Wellness Services Fellow engages with Fellows in other disciplines to research and present on an area of interest at our annual Fellow Symposium during both years of their Fellowship. The Fellowship program offers clinical education opportunities, paid professional development opportunities, and dedicated sport assignments. Performance Psychology and Wellness Services Fellows are encouraged to use this time to pursue advanced licensure and clinical or performance certifications. Performance Psychology and Wellness Services Fellows will be provided with weekly supervision, be mentored by senior staff, and have the opportunity to mentor interns.
Responsibilities*

* Provide individual mental health and AOD assessments, and individual, group, and team counseling services in a confidential setting for student-athletes.
* Administer optimal performance enhancement techniques for student-athletes.

+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams in design, engineering, and data science to deliver aerodynamic solutions.
+ Conduct post-processing and visualization of simulation data to extract actionable insights.
+ Support the development of digital twins and simulation-guided design frameworks.
+ Integrate AI/ML techniques to accelerate simulation workflows and enable predictive modeling.
+ Build and train surrogate models and physics-informed neural networks for flow prediction and design optimization.
+ Present technical findings and recommendations to stakeholders across engineering and product teams.
**Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)**
+ U.S. Citizenship required pursuant to government contract
+ PhD in Aerospace, Automotive, or Mechanical Engineering specialized in Aerodynamics
+ Candidates must have either a minimum of three (3) years of relevant industry experience or a Ph.D. degree with demonstrated research experience in a related discipline.
+ Deep understanding of **vehicle aerodynamics** , including drag reduction, downforce, and flow control.
+ Strong understanding of **fluid dynamics** , turbulence modeling, and numerical methods.
+ Experience in **design optimization workflows** using CFD and ML.
+ Proficiency in CFD tools such as **PowerFLOW** and **STAR-CCM+** .
+ Familiarity with **HPC environments** and cloud computing
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
+ Excellent communication and presentation skills.
+ Proven ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
**What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred qualifications)**
+ PhD with 3-5 years of experience
+ Familiarity with development of CFD-based AI training data sets and AI model training
+ Familiarity with various AI modeling approaches such as PINNs, GNNs, and Neural Operators
+ Experience with **AI/ML frameworks** like **Navasto, Neural Concept, Nvidia DoMINO** , and techniques such as regression, classification, and deep learning.
+ Knowledge of **physics-informed ML models** , surrogate modeling, and generative design.
