About the Fellowship:

The Anthony Lester Fellowships support lawyers or law students undertaking practical fieldwork in human rights/ the rule of law. The fellowships honour the memory and legacy of Anthony Lester QC (Lord Lester of Herne Hill), one of Britain's most distinguished human rights lawyers. As a young lawyer, he twice visited the American South during the civil rights movement and wrote a report on race relations. His experiences there inspired his pioneering work as a barrister and legislator.
The Anthony Lester Fellowships are intended to support lawyers and law students early in their careers to undertake a project of their choosing that helps affect positive, practical change in relation to the rule of law and human rights, inspired by his experience. The fellowships are designed to support those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to undertake practical fieldwork overseas, for a minimum period of 3 months. The fellowships are administered by the Human Rights Project at Bard College, and supported by the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, the Open Society Foundation, and the Lester family.
The fellowships are open to lawyers or law students early in their careers. Terms of the Fellowship
Two fellowships will be awarded for activities beginning no sooner than July 1, 2026. Fellows will be awarded a stipend of US $25,000 to cover their costs during the fellowship. It is expected that the project will comprise full time work for the fellows for a minimum of three months. At the end of the fellowship, fellows will be invited to give a presentation at Bard's campus in New York's Hudson Valley (their travel and accommodation costs will be paid). Fellows will write a short report on their project, to be published on the programme's website. Fellows may wish to publish their report elsewhere (crediting their support from the Anthony Lester Fellowships at Bard College). They will also have the chance to discuss their work with those who worked with Anthony Lester at the Odysseus Trust, which supported his legislative work.
About Anthony Lester
Anthony Lester (1936-2020) was an eminent human rights barrister and legislator. He argued leading cases in British, European and Commonwealth courts and developed the burgeoning field of public law. He campaigned for thirty years for the Human Rights Act 1998. As special adviser to Roy Jenkins, he helped devise the Sex Discrimination and Race Relations Acts. His activities in the Lords led to legislation on civil partnership, forced marriage, equality and defamation reform. He worked with human rights NGOs at home and overseas and founded the human rights charity Interights. The ideas that motivated him are recorded in his book Five Ideas to Fight For (2016).

RESPONSIBILITIES

COMPENSATION

The Fellow will play an integral role in Young Invincibles' New York policy, advocacy, research, communications, and legislative work. Primary Responsibilities:
The NY Policy Fellow reports to the Northeastern Regional Director and will contribute to building Young Invincibles' New York network, campaigns, and partnerships. Primary duties include working with partner organizations, coalitions, and our young adult network to build support for our 2026 state higher education research, policies, legislation, and consumer education. Individuals who are responsible for serious human rights abuses and corruption too rarely face consequences for their actions. Human Rights First's Accountability program works in partnership with civil society groups around the world to employ innovative advocacy tools, including targeted sanctions, to promote accountability. We also advocate for governments to support and protect independent justice institutions, and we work to prevent the misuse of targeted sanctions and similar policy tools to attack such institutions, their personnel, and other people exercising their rights. The Human Rights Accountability Legal Fellow will support the organization's work focused on ensuring that the U.S. government respects its human rights obligations and promotes those of other governments. The fellow will report to the Senior Counsel for Accountability and be part of a team of lawyers and policy experts that work across a broad range of issues related to accountability for human rights abuses and corruption. The fellow will contribute to our work promoting and facilitating the effective use of targeted sanctions as part of a global coalition of civil society organizations that we help coordinate. This coalition of more than 340 civil society groups works to shape and inform the use of human rights and anti-corruption sanctions by authorities in the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, Canada, and Australia. This position will also be involved in our efforts to protect accountability institutions and human rights activists from attack by the Trump administration and other actors. The 12-month position begins in September 2026. Please note, applicants must secure funding from a law school, foundation, law firm, or other funding opportunity to support the fellowship. HRF is willing to work with qualifying candidates to secure funding where necessary. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in Human Rights First's efforts to promote and facilitate the credible use of targeted human rights and anti-corruption sanctions under the Global Magnitsky sanctions program and other similar authorities, including working with other civil society groups to identify issues of concern.
In coordination with the Accountability team and other NGOs, prepare recommendations identifying Magnitsky-style sanctions targets to governments to quickly respond to developing human rights crises, and identify advocacy opportunities to support the effective use of sanctions.
Work with the Accountability team to address time-sensitive issues related to emerging U.S. foreign policy and human rights issues, and conduct fact-finding and research on human rights and rule of law trends in the United States and relevant regions, as assigned.
Participate in meetings and other advocacy with executive branch officials and members of Congress and their staff on Capitol Hill.
Research and draft reports, blogs, op-eds, and other materials relating to the use of U.S. and other government sanctions tools and other accountability mechanisms, and the human rights implications of U.S. foreign policy and democratic backsliding.
Assist in organizing public events or private convenings related to the use and misuse of targeted human rights and anti-corruption sanctions.
Update and develop resources related to targeted human rights and anti-corruption sanctions, such as recommendation templates, sanctions explainers, spreadsheets tracking sanctions designations, frequently asked questions, etc.
Assist with efforts to analyze, prevent, and respond to the misuse of targeted sanctions powers that undermine accountability institutions and mechanisms like the International Criminal Court.

The Morgan Library & Museum invites applications for the Shelby White & Leon Levy Fellowship in Manuscript Cataloging. The Fellowship is intended for new professionals who have demonstrated engagement with general cataloging or archival processing and wish to enhance their skills through intensive specialized training. This is a unique opportunity for early-career professionals to receive training and mentoring as members of the Morgan Library & Museum curatorial and cataloging staff.
Starting in February 2026, the Fellowship will consist of 400 hours, and applicants will work part-time (21 hours per week) in order to complete the 400 hours. Fellows will be assigned to work on specific groups of 19th- or 20th-century correspondence. They will be expected to research the historical and cultural context in which the letters and documents were produced, create collection and item level records in CORSAIR-the Morgan's collections database-according to DCRM(MSS), assign accession numbers, and attend to the rehousing and conservation needs of the material. Considerations will be given to applicants' areas of experience or expertise, such as specific language skills or subject specialization in art, literature, history, film, history of science, etc.
This opportunity is the eighth and last in a series of Manuscript Cataloging Fellowships that are offered by the Morgan every September and February from September 2022 to February 2026. Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Sustainability, the Sustainability Fellow supports education and research in sustainability, supporting the work of the Office of Sustainability and serving as the laboratory assistant for the introductory environmental science course. Responsibilities
Collect and analyze campus sustainability data for use in decision-making, classes, student projects, and other research initiatives.
Conduct research in support of the Office of Sustainability and the College Climate Action and Sustainability Committee.
Assist the Director of Sustainability in mentoring sustainability interns working on campus focused projects (waste audits, mapping, energy metering, etc.) and in shepherding these projects.
Support and expand outreach and education by the Office of Sustainability, while also gathering feedback from various constituencies, including publicizing Vassar's sustainability efforts with a broad audience, including alumnae/i.
Serve as a liaison between the Office of Sustainability and student organizations that may be interested in learning more about implementing sustainability practices on campus (e.g. composting, waste reduction, sourcing locally, etc.).
