Job Summary

Individual Placement - Developed Recreation Participant - LaCroix Ranger District

Recreation team members will spend the summer working and learning with USDA Forest Service Recreation Staff on the Superior National Forest. The Superior National Forest is a popular destination for a wide variety of recreational uses and is visited annually by hundreds of thousands of people. Selected SCA Participants will perform routine and complex outdoor recreation maintenance tasks on a variety of trails and at developed and dispersed recreation sites. SCA Participants will work with and learn from Superior National Forest recreation personnel with the goal of helping to develop skills that will make the SCA Participants more qualified for future positions in land management agencies.
This position will focus on maintaining and restoring recreation sites and trails to help prevent resource damage while minimizing the impact of visitors on the land. SCA participants will have the opportunity to learn a variety of skills from experienced Forest Service personnel while also learning how to interact with Superior National Forest visitors. Typical duties involve travel through the Superior National Forest to perform a variety of duties at recreation sites. The Superior National Forest has 41 campgrounds, 265 dispersed sites, 57 trailheads, 8 interpretive sites, 191 boat landings, and more than 2500 miles of trails.
Recreation duties primarily consist of a variety of facilities and ground maintenance tasks including mowing, brushing, cleaning and stocking outhouses, completing general carpentry, installing and maintaining fire grates, and painting/staining facilities and amenities. Members will also help to provide visitors with Leave No Trace education principles while interacting with Forest visitors. Recreation team members may also help to support campground management practices including posting reservations, removing hazard trees, and constructing/maintaining tables and other recreation site amenities.
Positions will likely work from mid-May through mid-August but start and end dates may be negotiable.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

· Visitor education and interpretation in front country and backcountry settings

· Supporting National Visitor Use Monitoring (NVUM) efforts which may include completing NVUM surveys at pre-determined sites and times using established survey protocols and questions. Training on survey protocols will be provided.

Greeting and assisting customers in the store and on the telephone, in a pleasant, efficient manner. Being available to customers, donors and employees in the retail production area.
Cover basic Store Manager functions by working a minimum of 2 weekends per month and 2 closing shifts per week that are not worked by the Store Manager.
Handle supervisory duties in the absence of the Manager. Carryout Retail Associate duties and maintain a motivational attitude as a role model to part-time Retail Associates.
Operate the cash register and calculator as necessary and following correct money handling including “Found Money” procedures. Train new Retail Associates on the cash register, production and donations.
Fill out daily and weekly store reporting and handle daily bank deposits.
Be alert to shoplifting, ticket switching, etc. Maintain store security and enforce the Employee Purchase and Goods Security Policy.
Be familiar with rehabilitative plans of clients assigned to the store. Work with them, as assigned, to improve their work behaviors and skills.
Sell merchandise and assist the Store Manager in all daily activities including conducting Retail Associate interviews with the Store Manager.
Meet or exceed daily production goals by sorting and pricing donated goods, maintaining quality control, and pricing per agency guidelines.
Maintain quality control of donated goods and pricing levels per agency guidelines.
Assist Retail Associates in the production area as necessary.
See that new merchandise is put out on the sales floor daily and that old merchandise is pulled weekly according to the rotation schedule.
Fill new goods/store supply orders, complete monthly inventories, purchase orders, receiving reports, donation receipts, and other forms as necessary.
Maintain neat and clean store appearance including the dressing rooms and office.
Keep merchandise counters, shelves, racks and displays fully stocked and in order.
See that Retail Associates assigned to displays each week are accountable for having them done.
Maintain the donation and production areas of the store according to agency standards. Follow the allowable list at workstations and the Daily 10 Minute drill.
Accept other related duties and responsibilities from time to time that may be assigned.

The Department of Natural Resources is seeking to fill one (1) Electrician position in Soudan, Minnesota. Days and hours of work are Monday to Thursday, 7:00am - 5:30pm. The position consists of planning and performing installation, remodeling, repair and preventative maintenance of industrial electrical equipment ranging from general household 120 volt work up to 2400 volt ungrounded systems in an underground mining environment as directed by the assistant park manager and in accordance with all national, state and local electrical codes, and to provide supervision as defined by Minnesota State Electrical Code to all commercial electrical work done by DNR employees in region II.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
+ To plan and perform installation, remodeling, repair and preventative maintenance of electrical equipment and systems used in communications, lighting and power distribution including but not limited to, high voltage (2400 volts) distribution switch gear, transformers, transmission lines, alarm and signal circuits, high voltage electric motors, high pressure dewatering systems, variable frequency drives (VFD's) and standby generators as directed by assistant park manager or park manager and in accordance with all national, state and local electrical codes.
+ Assist with planning for future electrical needs and maintenance programs.
+ Provide electrical services to other regional facilities as requested by the field services supervisor and as approved by the park manager.
+ Assist with Soudan Mine tours, routine maintenance and the day-to-day operation of the site as needed.
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ Class A Master Electrician License with heavy industrial experience.
+ Three years of heavy industrial experience such as mining, oil refinery or large-scale manufacturing with experience on medium voltage from 480 V to 2400 V systems as well as work on both AC and DC industrial electric motors and switch gear.
+ Thorough knowledge of National and State Electrical codes, National Electrical Safety Code, and standard electrical practices, techniques, materials and tools.
+ Knowledge of building construction plans.
+ Ability to read and understand plans, blueprints, and specifications.
+ Knowledge of electrical formulas and mathematics relating to power factor, demand factor, horsepower, impedance, frequencies, etc.
+ Knowledge of mathematics to estimate labor and material costs.
+ Ability to work in confined spaces and 1/2 mile underground on a daily basis.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience with electrical wiring systems and fixtures such as high voltage transmissions, transformers, oil circuit breakers, switching gears, insulators, lighting arrestors, VFD's and power circuits.
+ Knowledge and interest in historic 1924-era mine electrical equipment.
+ Ability to serve on the mine rescue team.
+ Ability to operate equipment including tractors, skid steer, forklift, welders, and other equipment used in park operations.
**Additional Requirements**
This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver's license with a clear driving record; per DNR Fleet Policy, only those 18 years of age or older with a valid driver's license may operate equipment and vehicles on behalf of the Agency.

Recreation team members will spend the summer working and learning with USDA Forest Service Recreation Staff on the Superior National Forest. The Superior National Forest is a popular destination for a wide variety of recreational uses and is visited annually by hundreds of thousands of people. Selected SCA Participants will perform routine and complex outdoor recreation maintenance tasks on a variety of trails and at developed and dispersed recreation sites. SCA Participants will work with and learn from Superior National Forest recreation personnel with the goal of helping to develop skills that will make the SCA Participants more qualified for future positions in land management agencies.
This position will focus on maintaining and restoring recreation sites and trails to help prevent resource damage while minimizing the impact of visitors on the land. SCA participants will have the opportunity to learn a variety of skills from experienced Forest Service personnel while also learning how to interact with Superior National Forest visitors. Typical duties involve travel through the Superior National Forest to perform a variety of duties at recreation sites. The Superior National Forest has 41 campgrounds, 265 dispersed sites, 57 trailheads, 8 interpretive sites, 191 boat landings, and more than 2500 miles of trails.
Recreation duties primarily consist of a variety of facilities and ground maintenance tasks including mowing, brushing, cleaning and stocking outhouses, completing general carpentry, installing and maintaining fire grates, and painting/staining facilities and amenities. Members will also help to provide visitors with Leave No Trace education principles while interacting with Forest visitors. Recreation team members may also help to support campground management practices including posting reservations, removing hazard trees, and constructing/maintaining tables and other recreation site amenities.
Positions will likely work from mid-May through mid-August but start and end dates may be negotiable.
