The Schreyer Institute provides teaching/learning resources to TAs and faculty across all Penn State locations. We work collaboratively with individual instructors, groups of instructors, departments, colleges, and campuses to develop teaching strategies that enhance student learning. We assist in developing assessment plans to determine the effectiveness of classroom innovations.
Required:
* Status as a doctoral student who has passed all aspects of the comprehensive exams by the time you apply.
* Completion of all doctoral coursework by the end of Spring 2025 semester.
* One or more semesters of instructional experience (in any discipline) in which you were responsible for creating class sessions (e.g., as autonomous instructor or as TA for a recitation or lab section); designing learning activities; and providing substantive feedback on student work.
* Interest in helping faculty and graduate students learn more about teaching.
Beneficial but not required:
* Knowledge of learning theory, design, assessment, and/or educational evaluation

Widener University is currently seeking Substitute Teaching Assistants to be responsible for providing high quality early childhood education to young children in our program; for the general supervision and management of children and work in cooperation with and under the supervision of the teacher for that group of children. These positions are part-time, substitute pool positions funded by external funds and are contingent upon the continued receipt of these funds.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):
Essential duties:
* Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the guidance of the teacher group supervisor
* Show initiative in the improvement of early education, the program and curriculum.
* Aid teachers and students by recording and reporting student attendance.
* Assist in maintaining the classroom logs, observational records, and the assessment records for each child
* Interact and supervise students with assignments and activities
* Provide positive reinforcement to students and model problem solving behavior and good communication skills. Treat all children with dignity and respect to allow for individual differences
* Actively supervise and manage students at all times.
* Acknowledge all parents when entering and exiting the program each day. Maintain an open, warm and professional relationship with all families. Be available for parents and teacher's conferences as needed.
* Maintain a room arrangement that is safe, inviting, interesting, and stimulating.
* Help with general housekeeping tasks such as preparing snacks, lunches, washing table and daily chores.
* Assists teacher in the instructional program in maintaining discipline and encouraging acceptable behavior.
* Maintain a professional attitude at all times
* Be knowledgeable about health and emergency policies and procedures (Fire Safety and Emergency Certificate, Health Assessment, Pediatric First Aid and CPR certificate)
* Maintain a total awareness of the children's safety during all activities
* Supervision of children at all times when on duty.
* Perform other tasks related to the position as assigned.
Secondary Responsibilities:
* May contribute to reports on student progress, behavior and performance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):
Required:
* High School Diploma and Child Development Associate (CDA)
* Associate's degree in liberal studies, early childhood education, psychology and one to two years of experience with children.
* Proficient in the use of computers, Internet and software programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
* Clearances: Current
* Current PA State Police Criminal History Report.
* Current FBI Criminal History Report (DHS) Department of Human Services.
* Current PA Child Abuse History Clearance (DHS) Department of Human Services.
* Must have current Annual Physical Exam and Manitou TB test

For Campus Ministry:

* Raise consciousness of the program by connecting in person with students on campus and curating intentional social media content that connects to the mission and identity of the programs
* Prepare site-specific research on the context of each Service and Justice Experience site and prepare leadership and participant training materials and co-lead leader and participant meetings and events.
* Willingness to attend Service and Justice Experiences in a leadership capacity as needed.

Requirements:
Students seeking assistantships are required to meet these criteria:
* Must be fully accepted into a master's degree program at Villanova University.
* Must be a full-time student and carry 9 graduate credit hours per semester to be considered for employment.
* May take a reduced course load in their final semester if approved by the Graduate Dean.
* Must be available to work 10 hours each week during the fall and spring semesters, between the hours of 9 am-5 pm.

Scheduling requirements:

* Flexibility with schedule and hours is important. There are certain tasks that are time-sensitive based on the program timeline and based on the current task schedule may shift from week to week.
Additional Information:
* Graduateassistants work approximately 20 hours per week.
* They will be expected to participate in staff retreats and on- and off-campus professional development activities.
* Work begins the first day of training for the Fall Semester and continues through the week of final examinations.
* Graduateassistants receive a biweekly stipend.
* Assistantships will be assigned for two semesters and can be renewed for an additional two semesters upon evaluation.
* There are no assistantships during the Summer Semester. All graduateassistantship appointments provide a full tuition waiver for 9-12 graduate credit hours, depending on the particular program of study, and a biweekly stipend for the academic year (paid August-May). No summer classes will be paid.
* Fees (e.g., activities fee, student life fee, health services fee, parking fee, late fee) remain the responsibility of the graduateassistant.
* If an appointment is made after the beginning of the semester, the stipend will be prorated based on the number of weeks remaining in the semester.
* If an assistant resigns, is dismissed, or is otherwise unable to work the required number of hours, the tuition waiver and stipend will be prorated based on the amount of time worked.
* While subject to renewal, all assistantships end with the close of university operations for the spring semester each year. Graduateassistants do not work during the winter session break or during the summer months unless agreed upon.
