Conducts proper informed consent process according to SOPs, ensuring the most current ICF version is used. Evaluates the eligibility of patients for inclusion into clinical trials. Maintains accurate records throughout the study. Reviews lab results, provides clinical significance for any out-of-range or abnormal values, and signs off as appropriate. Evaluates appropriateness of patient inclusion into trials; order repeat labs if necessary, or screen-fail patients as needed. Counsels' patients on seeking appropriate medical care when necessary. Reinforces study restrictions, diets, and study guidelines. Reviews and provides insight into impending CRFs, electronic CRFs, data clarification forms, and/or data queries. Reviews source documents, lab results, and procedures throughout the study. Assesses adverse events and drug reactions, thoroughly recording details, including the relationship to the study drug. Assists in reporting any serious adverse events (SAEs) to the PI. Participates in monthly staff meetings. Reads and understands the information in the Investigator's Brochure (IB), including the potential risks and side effects of the drug. Performs Clinical Research Coordinator duties. The research involves preclinical and translational studies designed to develop and evaluate novel drug formulations, new drug therapies, and underlying disease mechanisms, focused on substance use disorders, but aligned with co-occurring sleep, mood, pain, and neurodegenerative disorders. The individual will oversee a research team conducting behavioral studies in laboratory rodents, including drug self-administration, pharmacokinetics, assays of sleep and sedation, and tests of anxiety and affective behavior. These preclinical investigations are integrated with ongoing and planned human clinical trials and brain imaging studies, including functional MRI (fMRI) and PET imaging, to validate mechanistic insights and therapeutic efficacy across species that are being conducted by additional staff, predoctoral fellows, and post-doctoral fellows in the laboratory. The ultimate goal is to establish translational continuity from bench to bedside, facilitating the progression of promising candidates into clinical testing.     The Division of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery at Tulane University is recruiting PhD-level investigators to join our collaborative and growing research enterprise. The research portfolio of the Department of Surgery has expanded significantly in recent years, and the Division is looking to increase its translational research. The Division has a strong publication record and is supported by core research services and facilities within the School of Medicine (SOM). There is ample opportunity for cross-collaboration with other departments within SOM as well as cross-campus. Dual appointments in the SOM are also available based on candidate's experience. Our mission is to expand our work in the translational space, leveraging Tulane's strong clinical programs in trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery to create meaningful advancements in patient care. We are seeking investigators whose work focuses on any of the following topics: Hemorrhagic shock, resuscitation, and ischemia-reperfusion injury Inflammation and immune response to injury Acute lung injury/ARDS/Lung infection Acute Kidney Injury Core Responsibilities Lead an independent, extramurally funded research program (NIH R01 or equivalent). Develop and write grant proposals to seek and maintain extramural funding Work with surgeon-scientists on grant proposals and publications Publish in impactful peer-reviewed journals and present at medical or scientific meetings nationally and internationally; develop or strengthen national and international reputation. Incumbent will maintain a customer-oriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur that customer satisfaction is met at all times. Essential Position Functions and Duties: 5% - Conduct the studies within the behavioral core facility. Interact with the other laboratories that want to utilize the behavioral core. 10% - Oversee the breeding colony. 10% - Assist with regulatory compliance for the laboratory. 40% - Independently conduct acute and chronic behavioral pharmacological experiments.
