    Under general supervision of Laboratory Supervisor, perform phlebotomy, accessioning, specimen processing, and ordering. Work closely with providers to ensure accuracy of lab orders. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform phlebotomy on adult, geriatric pediatric or infant patients by venipuncture or dermal puncture as appropriate. Verify patient information, correctly label lab samples, and match laboratory requisition forms. Explain collection procedures to patients. Collect and process various lab samples using appropriate collection procedures. Maintain specimen integrity. Maintain quality control records and logs as required by policy. Perform data entry. Communicate with patients for sample re-collections. Communicate with reference laboratory as frequently as needed. Provide sample analysis results to physicians. Dispose of biohazard waste in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies. Maintain and correctly utilize lab equipment. Follow all health and safety protocols. Train other medical personnel in phlebotomy, point-of-care testing methods, and other laboratory duties. MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or GED. Completion of Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist or Medical Technology/Laboratory Science program from an accredited college or university. Associate Degree in related field preferred. Three (3) months of phlebotomist experience in a clinical healthcare setting OR 40 hours of classroom training in phlebotomy and 120 hours of clinical or practical training in blood drawing from an accredited training/educational program preferred. Current certification/registration as a Phlebotomist, Medical Assistant, or Medical Laboratory Technologist preferred. Current BLS certification or must obtain with 30 days of hire. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of laboratory policies, procedures, practices, including infection control requirements, chemical and biological hazards. Knowledge of governmental and regulating policies and standards. Knowledge of medical terminology. Excellent motor skills and ability to draw blood. Ability to maintain a professional, clean and neat appearance. Must treat patients with a gentle touch and calm, unhurried manner. Ability to maintain accurate medical documentation and records. Strong attention to detail. Data entry and computer skills. Proficiency in the use of computers, electronic health record such as EPIC, RPMS, MEDENT, NEXGEN or other similar software. Ability to collect and compile information for technical support work including but not limited to reports of findings. Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to provide exemplary customer service. Must be responsible, dependable, and able to maintain confidentiality of information .
