The Operator - Heavy Equipment is responsible for the safe operation of heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill or transfer station for the purpose of transferring, spreading, covering, loading and/or compacting waste or soil in an efficient and safe manner. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: + Perform pre- and post-operation inspection of the equipment in accordance with Company policy to ensure windows, lights, mirrors and rear view camera are clean. Safely and efficiently operate equipment that may include: forklift, excavator, bulldozer, front-end loader and other equipment using proper safety standards. + Continuously monitor waste for evidence of unacceptable waste in materials. + Continuously monitor the condition of the equipment to ensure it is operationally ready at all times to minimize down time; clean tracks or wheels on equipment, as needed. + Perform and document minor service on equipment, referring more complicated mechanical issues to Maintenance Shop for repair. + Complete Equipment Condition Report and other reports, as necessary; report any necessary repairs to supervisor, as needed. + Follow all required safety policies and procedures. + Ensure that shop is clean, serviced and stored at the completion of each shift. + Perform other job-related duties as assigned. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating and maintaining various heavy machinery-including roll-off trucks, payloaders and backhoes-to move, load, and transport materials, including hazardous and non-hazardous waste, in compliance with environmental and safety guidelines. A valid CDL is required, and candidates must be willing to work additional shifts as needed to maintain production support. Handle and move hazardous waste in accordance with Environmental Department guidelines and supervisor direction. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating and maintaining various heavy machinery-including roll-off trucks, payloaders and backhoes-to move, load, and transport materials, including hazardous and non-hazardous waste, in compliance with environmental and safety guidelines. A valid CDL is required, and candidates must be willing to work additional shifts as needed to maintain production support. Responsibilities: Operate heavy equipment such as roll-off trucks, large payloaders, backhoes, and other machinery to move, load, unload, and relocate materials. Load waste into dump trucks in a manner that prevents overfills and potential road spills. Transport non-hazardous waste to the company-owned landfill site. Handle and move hazardous waste in accordance with Environmental Department guidelines and supervisor direction. Perform routine inspections and minor maintenance on equipment; report any malfunctions to the supervisor. Complete and submit Industrial Equipment Condition Reports as directed. Adhere to all safety protocols, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain clean and safe work areas. While the above responsibilities will be the primary focus of this job, the company reserves the right to assign additional duties as necessary to meet operational needs. Qualifications Must possess an unrestricted, valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in compliance with Texas law for operating vehicles with GVWR over 26,000 lbs. Must maintain a clean driving record (e.g., no DWI) to remain eligible to operate company vehicles. Must comply with the McWane Safe Driving and Vehicle Loss Control Policy. Experience operating heavy equipment such as roll-off trucks, payloaders and backhoes preferred. Ability to perform basic maintenance and inspections of equipment. Below are the main responsibilities for this position. ) * Under general supervision operates several types of power construction equipment according to established guidelines to move, load or unload dirt; grade, dig and/or lift materials * Equipment may include, mini excavator, skid steer, roller, compactor, forklift, buckhoist and other light equipment * May repair and maintain equipment in addition to other duties. * Must adhere to safety protocol, and work in a drug-free environment. Operate medium to large-sized equipment, including backhoe, loader, bulldozer, and track hoe, to install or repair underground utilities and drive/load a dump truck. Operate haul rig with a trailer loaded with wide loads. Act as backup crew leader during his absence and supervise 3-5 crew members. Perform regular labor duties and use various hand tools to maintain and repair water and sewer mains. Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., nights, weekends, overtime and on-call rotation as required. * Integral member of a 5 man construction crew. * Operate haul rig with trailer loaded with wide loads. * Operate medium to large-sized equipment including; backhoe, loader, bulldozer, track hoe, to install or repair underground utilities and drive/load a dump truck. * At times will be performing manual labor to help install/repair water and sewer systems. * Operate bull dozer to clear utility right of ways (ROW) and demo condemned structures. * Operate backhoe or track hoe excavating ditch lines for sewer or water utility construction/repair. * Operate, inspect and load equipment/materials in a safe manner on a trailer. * Inspect and drive a haul truck with an oversized load. * Work requires being onsite and operating city vehicles to various locations. * Other duties as assigned. Needed Skills: * Must be able to understand and follow directions and instructions. * Must be able to work in inclement weather. * Must be able to sit for long periods of time while operating equipment. * Must be able to lift and carry 80-lbs. * Must be able to safely climb onto equipment, balance, stoop, bend and crouch. * Must be able to use and operate various hand tools; shovels, rakes, saws, hammers, ratchets and sockets. * Must be able to operate various gas powered saws, chain saws, hydraulic or electric pumps. * Must be able to communicate effectively with other employees. * Must be able to operate equipment in/around other underground utilities in a safe manner. * Must be able to respond within 30 minutes while on-call. Education and Experience: A high school diploma or GED is required, plus at least three (3) years of job-related experience. Must be able to operate various hand and gas-powered tools (hammer, ratchets, saws, electric pumps, etc.). Must possess a valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License, air brake endorsement, and a clean driving record. Must possess a TCEQ Class "C" Water Distribution/Class "1" Wastewater Collection License or can obtain one within one (1) year.
