This position allows for a hybrid / flexible work schedule with a mix of work spent on site at the Sargent & Lundy office.
This position will offer you the the opportunity to work in a project team environment with engineers and other Electrical and Structural designers and/or engineers in the development of transmission/distribution line drawings/designs.
You will have the opportunity to apply your computer-aided drafting/design skills, while receiving hands-on training in 3D design software environments, such as AutoCAD 3D and/or MicroStation.
Some of your responsibilities will include the development of transmission line plans and profile drawings, transmission/distribution line hardware details, material lists, and grounding details.
You will be involved in creating master sketches to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions. In preparing your drawings, you will confer directly with engineering staff in interpreting input from a variety of sources, such as engineering specifications, weight and volume calculations, and stress factors.
You may accompany and assist other project team members on walkdowns at client facilities to gather information for your design project.
While interfacing with vendors and construction contractors, you may be given the opportunity to explain your drawings so appropriate design adjustments can be made.

Essential skills and experience:
An Associate's Degree in drafting, or a high school diploma and 1 or more years drafting course work or equivalent technical experience.
Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
10 or more years of experience in design/drafting of Transmission Lines.
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of technical plans, drawings, and models.
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including the ability to relate various equipment to a technical design.
Ability to visualize parts in 3D without the aid of the computer.
Ability to multi-task from project to project.
Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
Attention to detail.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
Experience using Microstation, PLS-CADD, AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or GIS software.

This is a senior design engineering position that offers a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in nuclear Instrument and Controls Engineering and will provide an excellent opportunity to advance your career. You will interface with the discipline engineers and designers on the Project Team and with the client to ensure all client requirements are satisfied.
You will work on major process controls engineering projects in the following areas:
Digital Systems -- PLC, DCS, Touchscreen displays, network switches and control systems
Functional Requirement and Procurement Specifications for instrumentation and control systems for nuclear power plants
Process instrumentation replacement evaluation reports
Prepare documentation for design input for drawing production including cable block diagrams and schematics
Interface with vendors and prepare equipment purchase specifications
Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner to meet client requirements
Attend client meetings and perform site walkdowns to ensure the client is satisfied with our work product
Provide guidance as a mentor in the development of less experienced nuclear instrumentation and controls design engineer

Project Manager
The Project Manager will work on general aviation and non-hub commercial service airports. Projects include federal and state funded airport improvement programs as well as locally funded projects at public and private use airports.
Your impact:
Design experience on FAA and State DOT aviation projects within an assigned client base.
Management of portions of a project: grant facilitation, design, bidding, construction administration, and close out to meet project goals on time and on budget.
Compliance with objectives contained within the individual airport master plans, federal grant assurance requirements, FAA and state design standards, and a project scope of work.
Knowledge and application of FAA Advisory Circulars for airport design and construction including runways, taxiways, aircraft parking aprons, grading/drainage, and pavement markings.

Position Specific Details

Position Specific Details
Provides senior-level technical support by performing a variety of engineering tasks such as preparing and reviewing calculations and designs of a complex nature. You will work alongside a project team, receiving daily technical supervision and support from experienced engineers and subject matter experts (SME's) in nuclear power generation and electrical power systems design. Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations and design tasks for large nuclear power generating stations, including protection and coordination studies, cable sizing, medium and low voltage system design, DC battery sizing, and analyses that supports electrical designs for safety-related systems.
Utilize industry-standard software tools like ETAP to perform power systems analysis and modeling for complex electrical networks.
Assist with the design, selection, and integration of major electrical power equipment, such as switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), large power transformers, breakers, relays, and related systems essential to nuclear power generation station operation.
Partner with multidisciplinary engineering teams and engage in technical training sessions and reviews.

As a member of an engineering and design team, you will work on a wide range of projects for various clients. You will prepare, review, and provide guidance for design calculations, develop specifications, and work with designers for drawing development.
You will prepare, review, or guide the structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment, and foundations.
There is the potential for you to travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.

Essential skills and experience:

Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, N690, ACI 318, and ACI 349.
Proficiency with MS Office applications.

The Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline performs evaluations for piping systems in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other codes as applicable to the specific evaluation being performed. The Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline also performs the following specialty topics.
Vibration monitoring and analysis to evaluate system operational vibrations associated with plant modifications and operating events, and to provide vibration prevention and mitigation solutions and designs.
Evaluation of hydraulic transients, evaluation of piping systems for thermal stratification effects, operability evaluations, and qualification of piping for hydrodynamic loads.
Pipe rupture evaluations, evaluation of pipe wall thinning due to flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) or microbiological induced corrosion (MIC), and pipe flaw evaluations.
Position Specific Details
Provides senior-level technical support by performing a variety of engineering tasks such as preparing and reviewing calculations and designs of a complex nature. On a task basis, is responsible for the preparation and completion of discipline engineering designs that are responsive to project needs. Monitors the work of assigned staff to ensure requirements are met.
Senior-Level staff support engineering design projects with the following responsibilities:
Prepares and reviews complex calculations.
Reviews simple system/structural designs and prepares complex system designs.
Prepares documented design input for drawing production (i.e., P&IDs and Master Diagrams). Reviews design input for simple system/structures. Performs engineering review of drawings.
Prepares and reviews equipment specifications. Prepares material specifications.
Prepares bid evaluations for systems and larger components. Prepares calculations to support economic evaluations. Solicits data from vendors.
Prepares and reviews simple reports/studies.
Develops single-discipline/simple-scope project budgets, schedules, and project work plans. Monitors own work to ensure it is completed within budget and on schedule.
Provides single-discipline input to simple proposals.
Uses effective written and oral communication skills to convey information to project team members and managers. Presents written technical information in a clear and concise manner in all deliverables.
Prepares reports and deliverables that are clearly understood and meet client requirements. Communicates clearly in meetings with client, and summarizes meeting notes in a clear and timely manner.
