Job Purpose: As a member of the Educational Technology & Training Team and reporting to its director, the Senior InstructionalDesigner consults with faculty on course design, educational technology integration and the application of pedagogical best practices across all modes of instruction. The position's primary responsibility will be to lead development of online courses for the JD Access Program within the WNE School of Law. The Senior InstructionalDesigner will help faculty to develop and manage effective learning environments and introduce appropriate technologies that add pedagogical value in support of specific curricular goals as defined by the Associate Dean of the Law School. The Senior InstructionalDesigner will also serve as a key liaison to other curricular support groups at the university.
Key Responsibilities:
Provides instructionaldesign expertise to faculty in the design/redesign of courses
Collaborates with faculty in their development of curriculum and instructional material needs.
Serves as project manager for individual course design projects.
Advises faculty on best practices in pedagogical approaches to course site design, rubrics, and assessments.
Plans and designs online training programs for faculty who will be developing and teaching online courses.
Delivery of workshop training for faculty and administrators on use of Learning Management Systems and delivery of content in a hybrid content including synchronous and asynchronous modules.
Develop training materials and manuals.
Supervises the review of courses for accessibility and compliance with accreditation standards.
Assessment of new instructional technologies and needs.
Strategic planning related to instructional technology and learning design.
Engage in continuing professional education through the Office of Information Technology.
Qualifications
Required Education:
- A Master's degree in InstructionalDesign, Education, or a related field is required.
Required Experience:
- A minimum of three years of experience in instructionaldesign, curriculum development, or a related field.
- Proven experience in designing and developing online and blended learning courses.
- Experience working in higher education or a similar academic environment is preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency with Universal Design for Learning Principals and application.
Demonstrate expertise in the application of adult learning theory in the development of online learning.
Excellent skills in using Learning Management Systems such (preferably Canvas)
Excellent skills in using Zoom and other synchronous online communication tools in an academic setting.
Strong organizational and project management skills and attention to detail.
Experience in the use of Quality Matters Applying the Rubric Certification (APPQMR), or equivalent i.e., OSCQR
Proven record of accomplishment working collaboratively within a diverse academic community with multiple constituencies.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey technical information to others without technical expertise.
Ability to manage workload and meet established deadlines.

The Work:
+ Implement Oracle HCM Cloud Learning Management.

Responsibilities:
Individualized Academic Coaching and Assessment
• Conduct one-on-one academic coaching sessions with students to evaluate learning behaviors, study strategies, time management, and test-taking approaches.
• Design and implement personalized learning plans for students experiencing academic difficulty or preparing for high-stakes assessments (NBME exams, USMLE Step 1/2).
• Provide structured guidance on analyzing test performance, interpreting item-type errors, and applying clinical reasoning frameworks.
• Collaborate with student advisors, course directors, and faculty mentors to ensure consistency of academic support strategies.
Programmatic and Group Support
• Develop and deliver workshops and small-group sessions on effective learning, metacognition, test preparation, and cognitive resilience.
• Train and partner with the student-led peer tutoring program (Peer Fellows)
• Contribute to orientation, transition-to-medical-school programming, and Step preparation sessions.
• Partner with Student Affairs and the Academic Success Support Team to implement proactive outreach for students flagged by early-alert or assessment systems.
Collaboration and Academic Remediation
• Serve as a key member of the Academic Success Support Team and participate in case discussions regarding remediation and progression.
• Advise the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education on curricular or assessment issues affecting student performance.
• Maintain close communication with faculty and administrators to ensure confidentiality, transparency, and timely coordination.
Data Tracking and Continuous Improvement
• Maintain confidential records of student encounters and progress.
• Analyze outcomes data (exam performance, remediation rates, USMLE outcomes) to identify trends and recommend targeted interventions.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement of student success programs and LCME accreditation documentation.
Professional Development and Scholarship
• Engage in ongoing professional development in learning science, medical education, and academic coaching.
• Participate in national communities of practice such as the Medical Education Learning Specialists (MELS).
• Contribute to presentations or publications related to student learning, remediation, and academic success.
Reporting Relationships and Integration
• The Learning Specialist reports administratively to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, ensuring coordination with student advising, counseling, and progression oversight.
• The position maintains a functional reporting line to the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education, ensuring alignment with curriculum design, assessment, and faculty development.
• The Learning Specialist is an active member of the Academic Success Support Team and related committees/groups focused on student learning and remediation.
Education Requirements:
Master's degree or higher in Educational Psychology, Learning Sciences, Cognitive Science, InstructionalDesign, Higher Education, or a related field
Qualifications:
Minimum three years of experience in academic coaching, learning strategy instruction, or academic support with adult or graduate learners
Demonstrated knowledge of learning theory, metacognition, and assessment design relevant to professional education
Experience in medical, health professions, or graduate-level education environments preferred

Position Summary:

They will participate during workflow analysis, design and work with Subject Matter Experts to ensure congruity between system design and lessons plans. Responsible for building, testing, and maintaining the training environment, maintaining policy and procedure documentation related to training, conducting training for new staff, and coordinating training for software upgrades and updates. Assists in development and communication of the training schedule. They will work closely with system vendors, consultants, and technical services of any given affiliate to ensure education delivery meets training specifications.

Partner with School of faculty, clinicians, and subject matter experts (SMEs) on course design, development, and reflection through consultation, with a specific focus on nursing education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
