Scope of Assignment
The successful candidate will join an English as a Second Language program that continues to create curriculum responsive to student needs, increasing student completion through the implementation of strategies geared to increase student equity.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in teaching English as a second language, or teaching English to speakers of other languages
OR
Bachelor's degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor
OR
Bachelor's degree with any of the majors specified in subparagraph (2) above; and one year of experience teaching English as a second language in an accredited institution; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a noncredit instructor

COMPENSATION:
Salary is based on qualifications and experience. As a member of the 23-campus CSU System, we offer an extremely competitive benefits package.
Newly hired lecturers with terminal degrees are placed in Range 3 of the salary schedule and others are normally placed in Range 2. Starting salaries are usually at or near the minimum of the range. Bring your love for community building and adventure to the Sierra Nevada Mountains. As an Alpine Backpacking Instructor, you will facilitate transformative backpacking and/or rock climbing courses with students (ages 12+) both on and off trail. Instructors work on a seasonal basis under the mentorship of Lead Instructors or Course Directors. Instructors in this program deliver a variety of courses, ranging from 5-30 days. Our programs take students into new and challenging outdoor environments while focusing on leadership, community, and personal growth.

This is a seasonal, exempt position with a starting per diem wage of $142/day. All required training is paid at our training rate ($136/day)
Required training begins May 5th. New staff are expected to work until mid September. Most new staff can expect to work 60-80 days per season (including training).

General Description:
This is a part-time instructional assignment in the Noncredit Department at Merced College under the general direction of the Dean of Adult Education and Noncredit. The maximum teaching load is 10 units per semester, which may include evening and weekend hours.

Weather, snow conditions and the number of guests play a large role in the work scheduling of Bear Valley Mountain Resort employees.
Holiday and part-time positions are available, with a minimum requirement of 18 days worked over the course of the season including 12 hours of training.
You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time.
Working Conditions
Bear Valley Mountain Resort employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures.
This position requires the physical fitness to ski and/or snowboard for two to four hours a day and be able to lift up to 25lbs.
Uniforms
A professional appearance at Bear Valley Mountain Resort is required, and most uniform items will be provided for you to do your job. This uniform is for work hours ONLY, no exceptions.
