SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
This position will work directly with the Foreman to coordinate the work of operation and maintenance personnel, including contractor crews, ensuring safe and efficient job performance that produces quality results. Work involves climbing poles, operating bucket and line trucks, and handling high voltages during the construction of electrical distribution facilities. Responsible for enforcement of safety policies and seeing that construction standards are followed. Considerable independent action and leadership are required. Job Responsibilities:

Must have mechanical aptitude, good math skills, and the ability to learn.
Must have knowledge of the materials, tools, and equipment to be used.
Must have knowledge of various transformer banks, intellirupters, capacitor banks, and other voltage regulating equipment.
Must have knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions.
Must be physically able to lift heavy objects.
Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
Regularly exposed to mechanical parts; high precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock. Frequently exposed to vibration

JOB CONTEXT:
The Journeyman is a full-time, permanent position in the Electric Department. The immediate supervisor for this position is the JourneymanLineman Supervisor. The person in this position is supervised on a daily basis. The person in this position works regular hours, year-round. The person in this position works overtime at least 2 to 3 times a month, on call for emergencies or severe weather. The person in this position rarely works nights except during emergencies. There is no shift work associated with this position. 5% of the work for this position is done indoors; 95% is outdoors and requires work done in all types of weather conditions.
There is at least weekly exposure to chemicals and/or hazardous materials in this position including but not limited to, PCBs cleansers, exhaust fumes, and electrical current. The stress level associated with this position is moderately low to moderately high, depending upon the workload and various deadlines. Physical work consists of, but is not limited to, standing for long periods of time, lifting, bending, and stretching.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
· The person in this position must have a valid Missouri commercial driver's license and have a journeyman electrician certification.

-Vocational training in electric systems is recommended.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to rapidly assess changing working conditions for safety. Ability to analyze and solve problems as they are presented. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in verbal and written form. Ability to safely work at elevated heights. Ability to distinguish colors to identify circuits and color-coded electrical connectors. Ability to prioritize work assignments. Ability to analyze voltage recordings, charts, and electric trouble reports to make recommendations on replacing or upgrading equipment. Ability to safely determine the equipment, tools, materials and labor needed to complete assigned projects.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed outdoors in different weather conditions including rain, snow, extreme heat or cold, and darkness. Principal duties and Responsibilities:
• Operating bucket truck as well as other equipment related to aerial fiber construction
• Understand how to proficiently set up the job (strand trailer, fiber trailer and caddies)
• Understand clearances from the other utilities, ground, road, highway, sidewalk and nonpedestrian areas
• Knowledge and ability to properly frame poles according to industry specifications
• Ability to lash/over-lash single and multiple cable bundles of fiber cables
• Ability to read and interpret network prints
• Ability to safely climb poles using gaffs or ladders
• Understand and follow OSHA safety requirements to complete the job(s) safely and efficiently
• Communicate by phone frequently throughout the work day
• Follow direction(s) specifically delivered from crew leader

A Route Service Apprentice is one of those positions that many current CITY personnel started their career in. It is the position that gets people in the door of the Service Department. As a Route Service Apprentice, you will begin by riding with every single Route Service Representative at your location. Apprentice electricians are the powerhouses behind our most dynamic projects, while summer interns and new graduates kick off their careers as industrial electrical professionals. These team members work closely with our journeyman electricians-seasoned experts who lead and mentor crews while completing complex projects.
Our journeyman electricians partner with field foremen and site superintendents, who coordinate work, manage risks, and keep projects on track through planning, motivation, and communication. Our I&E, service, and maintenance teams ensure project performance by installing, testing, troubleshooting, and calibrating equipment. Journeyman Responsibilities
* Measuring, cutting, bending, threading, assembling, and installing conduit
* Overseeing, or participating in, wire installations with conduit & cable tray
* Connecting power to equipment
* The ability to lead/develop up to 4 apprentice electricians
* Knowledge of other construction trades
* Ability to stand, walk ,and lift up to 100 lbs in construction work environment
* Ability to climb, and maintain balance, on ladders and scaffolds while carrying tools
* May be exposed to high and precarious places
* Risk of electrical shock and outside weather conditions
* Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required
* Other duties may be assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience: We are looking for electricians with experience using, or the desire to learn, the latest BIM/VDC technologies for pre-planning and on-site coordination of all Interstates projects.
* Must have state issued journeyman electrician license (or equivalent)
* Industrial electrical experience required.
* Knowledge of BIM/VDC Technology preferred.
Location/Travel: This position will require travel in/around Des Moines, IA - up to/within a 200-mile radius. Applicants must be permanently located in/around the office location or be willing to permanently relocate. Applicants must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license. Per diem and mileage stipends applicable per company policy.
Work Schedule: Start times, break times and work hours vary per site and stage of our projects. Our employees work more than 40 hours per week but no more than 60, as part of our commitment to safety. Due to the type of construction, weekend work maybe required on occasion.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, this role is often exposed to high/precarious places, risk of electrical shock, and all outside weather conditions. This role is expected to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Due to the nature of our work and our client base, this role may involve tasks in an environment exposed to dust. Candidates should be comfortable working in these conditions and complying with safety standards to protect their well-being.

What You'll Do:
Manage a crew of 10 - 15 Journeymen and Apprentices
Learn employees names, make sure their name is on the hard hat, get to know everyones strengths and weaknesses, and assign them accordingly
Manage and track all tools, ensure the appropriate number of tools are matched to the crew size, and return all defective tools with tool tags with a brief description of the problem
Build effective and cost-efficient composite crews
Using a Pre-Fab Coordinator, maximize the use of Pre-Fab and packaging on all tasks and projects
Ensure all work installed meets CEC, NEC, state, federal, or any other codes that apply to the project jurisdiction
Lead by example in a professional, workmanlike manner, role model for the crew, and challenge all employees to achieve excellence
Responsible for the Safety and Field Labor on the project assigned
Review individual crew daily Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for compliance
Performing constant quality checks and ensuring that all work meets specifications
Address any deficiencies or issues promptly
Make sure materials and tools are readily available to ensure progress is met
Promote a safe work environment by enforcing all company and owner guidelines and OSHA safety regulations
Inspect work areas for potential hazards and take corrective actions
Maintain accurate records of work completed, including daily logs and progress reports
Understand weekly project objectives with strict adherence to the installation schedule
Develop excellent understanding of the scope of work, drawings, specs and schedule
Manage tasks to achieve or exceed production targets provided by General Foreman

Education:
