QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or equivalent. Two year AA or Technical degree in a related field. Four years directly related supervisory and facility experience in bus and/or heavy equipment vehicle maintenance, including one year experience in small equipment repair. Work in a similar size school district or other organization may be substituted for education on a year for year basis. Experience with current office technology (e.g., computers, fax, copier, GroupWise, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Excellent customer service skills. Valid driver's license with Class 'B' Commercial Driver's License with "P1S" endorsement and acceptable driving record. Computer knowledge of vehicle diagnosis software with basic knowledge of fleet maintenance software, fuel dispersal program, and vehicle inventory. Possess a basic set of auto mechanic tools and storage cabinet. Current WISHA approved first aid/CPR certification. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work effectively as a team member and team leader as needed. Ability to work with frequent interruptions. Ability to meet tight time constraints and deadlines including but not limited to varying working hours when necessary. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times. Assistant Crew Leader will normally apply 75% of their daily time to journeyman level maintenance and repair tasks and 25% of their time to administrative work in support to the Crew Leader. Assist in management of the transportation mechanic program for entire district, working closely with the Crew Leader. Assist with job assignments. Assist the Crew Leader and Transportation Director and Human Resources in decisions concerning interviewing, hiring, and promotion of transportation vehicle maintenance staff. Review time sheets, leaves, and assist in auditing payroll records. Assist in the performance and discipline process as needed and as directed by the Transportation Director and the Executive Director of Human Resources. Strong writing skills essential. Coordinate and review work of employees as needed. Resolve complaints concerning transportation mechanical maintenance services. Provide resources and guidance that will enable crews to accomplish their job requirements as directed by the Transportation Director. Develop and maintain proficiency in the District computerized Work Management System Transportation Maintenance and Material Inventory modules (MPulse). Assist in developing long range plans and schedules for transportation vehicle maintenance and preventative maintenance. Ensure goals are reached. Implement district policies, procedures and applicable state regulations, keeping current material safety data sheet (MSDS) booklet for all hazardous materials used by transportation vehicle maintenance personnel. Train personnel in the safe use of hazardous materials. Assist in coordination of assigning work of crews. Assist in compiling, analyzing, and developing specifications for bus maintenance work. Assume responsibility to deal with emergency situations. Participate in district supervisory training. Assist Transportation Crew Leader in overseeing the daily activities of the bus garage, advising and / or training mechanics, participating in work, and keeping required records. (Currently assigned to swing shift). Inspect school district vehicles and equipment for safety hazards; report and/or correct as needed. Carry out the responsibilities of Transportation Crew Leader in his/her absence. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

    Community Wildfire Protection Corps (CWPC) Hitch (Camping) Assistant Crew Leader (ACL) LOCATION(S): Serve in communities across Eastern Oregon while working in a Hitch-based 10-day on/4-day off format-mandatory initial training in Eugene, OR, with travel provided from Eastern Oregon. COMPENSATION: Meals and camping accommodation will be provided during the work week, Monday through Friday. A total living stipend of $10,720 prorated over a 14-week period, paid monthly. AmeriCorps term of 450 hours with education award of $1956.35 based on the successful completion of the service term. Ed awards can be used for a variety educational fees/tuition and student loans. PROGRAM AND SCHEDULE DATES: Crew Lead Training starts 2/9/26 through 2/22/26 Service Term: 2/23/26 through 5/15/26 10-day camping hitches, followed by 4 days off for the duration of the session. Crew camps together 24/7 throughout the 10-day hitch. Crew members receive a 30-minute lunch and at least 3, 15-minute breaks each day. The 30-minute lunch break does not count toward work hours. NYC also operates an accredited charter school, internship program, and the Idaho Conservation Corps (ICC). POSITION SUMMARY: CWPC Assistant Crew Leaders (ACLs) will develop skills to manage and supervise crews of up to 5 young adults, ages 19-26. Crew work schedule will typically be Monday through Friday; however, schedules may vary for certain trainings or types of project work. While in session, ACLs will be responsible for learning and implementing a variety of fuel reduction projects on private lands for homeowners within 100 feet of their home or on public lands. Saw work does not include felling of large trees and consists of non-complex, A-level sawyer scope. CWPC crews do not actively put out fires/dig fire lines, and they are not prescription burn crews. Assistant Leads will develop skills, and help leads implement a safe and efficient crew experience, including facilitation and communication of work, communicating crew meal and break times, facilitation of educational curriculum. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership and Mentorship : The Assistant crew leader is a unique developmental position within the crew. that has exhibited strong work ethic, determination, and interest in being a crew lead. ACLs are developing and using skills in a challenging and dynamic environment. They are an active part of the crew while learning from the crew leader and taking on leadership responsibilities as they learn. The ACL will get the chance to practice their skills as leader throughout the session and cover for the Lead if they are absent from the program. ACLs will work toward developing the following skills: Manage, supervise, and participate in all aspects of project work. Maintain crew discipline, resolve conflict, and establish/maintain crew morale. Provide formal and informal feedback to crew members with specific attention to safety, work productivity and quality, efficiency, teamwork, and leadership.
