ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide mental health interventions for clients as directed by Case Manager and Clinical Supervisor while assisting in day-to-day requirements of Day Treatment programming. Review treatment paperwork/assessments and ensure skills are being taught accordingly. Ensure that all documentation is completed according to Day Treatment policies and procedures and current governing standards. Participate as a member of the Day Treatment team including, but not limited to, assisting in the coordination of the daily program operations, attending weekly staff meetings and maintaining relationships and communication to assure appropriate care for clients. Provide family and/or individual skills training as directed by the Clinical Supervisor and document sessions according to governing standards. Qualifications ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ENVIRONMENT: Education, Training & Work Experience: An individual who is qualified in at least one of the ways described in paragraph (b) to (d) may serve as a mental health practitioner. (b) An individual is qualified as a mental health practitioner through relevant coursework if the individual completes at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields and: Has at least 2,000 hours of experience providing services to individuals with: A mental illness or a substance use disorder; or A traumatic brain injury or a developmental disability, and completes the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to a client; Is fluent in the non-English language of the ethnic group to which at least 50 percent of the individual's clients belong, and completes the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to a client; Is working in a day treatment program under section 256B.0671, subdivision 3, or 256B.0943; or Has completed a practicum or internship that (i) required direct interaction with adult clients or child clients, and (ii) was focused on behavioral sciences or related fields. (c) An individual is qualified as a mental health practitioner through work experience if the individual: Has at least 4,000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to individuals with: A mental illness or a substance use disorder; or A traumatic brain injury or a developmental disability, and completes the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to clients; or Receives treatment supervision at least once per week until meeting the requirement in clause (1) of 4,000 hours of experience and has at least 2,000 hours of experience providing services to individuals with: A mental illness or a substance use disorder; or A traumatic brain injury or a developmental disability, and completes the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to clients. (d) An individual is qualified as a mental health practitioner if the individual has a master's or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fields Scope of Practice: A mental health practitioner under the treatment supervision of a mental health professional may provide skill-building services to a child client and complete treatment plans for a child client. A mental health practitioner must not provide treatment supervision to other staff persons. A mental health practitioner may provide direction to mental health rehabilitation workers and mental health behavioral aides. A mental health practitioner who provides services to clients according to section 256B.0624 or 256B.0944 may perform crisis assessments and interventions for a client. Position Description The Mental Health Therapist provides direct clinical services to individuals, families, and groups. Clinical services may include individual/family counseling sessions, group counseling services, and individual/family psychosocial and family systems assessment and treatment plan development. The Mental Health Therapist functions as a treatment team member and collaborates with other agency professionals in order to provide therapeutic services to identified clients and their families. The Mental Health Therapist aides in role modeling and mentoring staff in providing high quality treatment services. Essential Duties and Responsibilities * Facilitate individual, family, and group counseling sessions, according to the treatment plan, professional standards, and certification standards. * Conduct clinical assessments using clinical interview, review of records, objective diagnostic tools, and consultation with other members of the treatment team. * Develop treatment plans collaboratively with clients, and revise the plan as treatment progresses. * Integrate professional treatment and behavioral strategies within a multi-disciplinary team of professionals including medical and direct care personnel. * Collaborate with and guide the treatment team members in implementing individualized and comprehensive treatment plans congruent with the identified client's diagnosis, needs, and personal strengths. * Complete all required documentation as indicated by certification, funding source, and program standards. * Actively participate in clinical supervision meetings as required to meet best practice and licensure standards. * Attend staff meetings and participate in trainings as required.
