This is a travel position with job sites in OR, WA, and ID. The Travel Utility Excavator/Equipment Operator will be responsible for safely and skillfully operating and maintaining construction equipment (cable plows, backhoe, mini excavator, skid steer, rock saw, and other utility construction equipment). This position may also help with loading and unloading of equipment and materials using heavy equipment as well as any other tasks assigned by the foreman. A Class A CDL is required for this position. Pay: $25-40/hr, DOE. Daily Per Diem + travel accommodations. This position demands expert knowledge of electrical components and the ability to perform complex tasks such as mid-span operations, wire clipping, and equipment installation while maintaining strict safety standards. What You'll Do Have vast knowledge of the transmission electrical system and its components. Install, maintain, and repair electrical transmission systems, including conduits, cables, wires, and related equipment. Work from helicopters, climb poles or use truck-mounted buckets to access equipment. Clip/unclip wire from the helicopter skid, HEC line, towers and ladders. Dead end wire from the helicopter skid, HEC line, Dead end boards and ladders. Maintain positive control of the wire during mid-span operations from the skid or HEC line. Cut out/Press mid span sleeves, install mid span equipment including markerballs, spacers, bird diverts and related equipment. String wire conductors and cables between poles, towers, setting lines in place and using rigging to adjust tension. Inspect power lines and identify problems. Test power lines for the presence of electricity, using testing equipment. Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects. Adhere to safety practices and procedures, such as checking equipment and PPE daily. Erect/maintain structures and their components. Direct and teach laborers, apprentices, and groundmen. Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities. Adhere to all DOT laws/regulations. Perform other related duties as assigned. Perform all City and D.O.T. requirements: Pre-trip, Vehicle condition report, etc. Pre-trip: Check vehicles before operating for proper functioning of equipment and safety devices. Vehicle condition report: Accurately documenting the condition of vehicle. Responsible for cleaning and maintaining assigned vehicles up to standards of appropriate levels of cleanliness. Utilize tablets to complete proper ticket paperwork for billing and invoice purposes. Load materials in truck as required. Perform related work as required. What You'll Bring Qualifications: Possess a valid CDL driver's license with a good driving record. High School Diploma from accredited school or its equivalent. Two (2) years of experience in aerial construction or telecom trade. May be required to work long, or alternate hours, as necessary for the efficient operation of the business.Skill in the operation of assigned equipment. Ability to apply preventative maintenance and service to motor vehicles and motorized equipment and to make minor adjustments to correct performance malfunctions in the field. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public. Preferred Qualifications: Previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunication industry. Able to perform all duties in telecommunications construction (such as; pole transfers, maintenance builds, new build, cable installation, over lash, and strand construction) Ability to travel. Working Conditions: This is a full-time hourly position, expected to work at least 40 hours per week. This position operates in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including; extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind. The outside work environment will vary throughout the day including changes in terrain, traffic, urban settings, and/or rural settings. This position may occasionally be exposed to natural gas and to the risk of electrical shock. Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels. Physical Requirements: Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-75 pounds).
