Obtains and/or prepares specimens for laboratory testing. Performs automated and non-automated laboratory tests providing quality lab results for inpatient and outpatient customers to aid in diagnosis and treatment of patients, according to established policies and procedures. Responsibilities
Performs both basic and advanced emergency, therapeutic, and diagnostic laboratory procedures with knowledge regarding age specific laboratory needs of the neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient.
Calibrates, standardizes, operates, maintains, and troubleshoots various instruments following established procedures. Performs quality control to ensure proper functioning of instruments, reagents, and procedures. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Accession all tissue specimens and make cassettes.
Assist pathologists/PA in cutting room when needed.
Properly hang tissue on the processors.
Responsible for determining/selecting specimens for grossing.
Photograph specimen (Polaroid and 35 mm).
Prepare tissue to be sent out for further testing such as Lymphoma Phenotyping, Quantitative Iron studies, etc.
Keep quality control charts on equipment in the accession and cutting room.
Prepare routine solutions, ensure paraffin dispensers are filled daily, maintain and inventory of supplies and store in proper location and keep a clean work area.
Responsible for proper disposal and handling of hazardous waste to include xylene recycling (i.e. xylene, reagent alcohol, formaldehyde) and dispose of specimens according to procedures.
Review procedure manuals and stay current with procedural changes that have occurred.
Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
